ENGINEERING EDUCATION AND RESEARCH NASHIK - 03 Our visit was organized by Chemical Engineering Department on 26 th September 2019 that was on Thursday. We were guided by Prof. A. S. Kshirsagar and Prof. T. B. Mahale. The objective behind visiting was to get knowledge about water testing equipments, hydrological data, various rainfall measurement equipments, software’s used and how analysis of water is done. Introduction to Hydrology:- Hydrology project is taken up in November 1995 with the help of World Bank under credit No. 2774-IN. The prime objective is to develop sustainable Hydrological Information System (HIS) for the participating 13 States & 8 central agencies including Maharashtra state in India. The Hydrological Information System comprises hydro meteorological monitoring infrastructure and a set of easily accessible comprehensive database for data validation. The development of hydrological database supports major aspects of India's Water Policy particularly in allocation, planning and management of water resources. The information provided by the system is being tuned to the requirements of decision / policy makers, designers and researchers. It will be useful to take decision, to study the water resources for long term planning's or for design of water resources structure. Objective of Hydrology:- The prime objective of Hydrology Project is to develop and implement a sustainable Hydrological Information System (HIS) through improvement and strengthening the infrastructure of Hydro-meteorological stations, training extensively the personnel involved and computerization of the data for meaningful analysis and dissemination to the users. The use of SWDES and HYMOS software's in data entry and processing has resulted in giving out quality data. The phase I of Hydrology Project with achievement of objectives cited above is completed on 5th April 2003. The next phase i.e. Hydrology Project Phase II is sanctioned by World Bank providing assistance to the tune of Rs 9.80 Cores over a period of six years and is started from April 5, 2006. The Phase II focuses basically on demand driven dissemination and use of HIS data though HDUG and purpose driven studies based on HP data and development of decision support system. Objectives of HP I:- Using advanced techniques and equipments for basic data measurement & collection. Computerized data entry validation of hydro meteorological & water quality data with use of software’s like SWDES & HYMOS. analysis. Easy and friendly user data dissemination of hydro meteorological & water quality data. To enhance publication and access of information to eligible data user i.e. hydrology data users group members. Up gradation of hydro meteorological stations network and water quality laboratories. Planning of the water resources and its relevant usage. Evaluation of basic water resources and developmental works. Strengthening of flood controlling system. Sedimentation survey of reservoirs. Impart training to the officers and relevant staff regarding software’s of data entry and validation. Participating Central Agencies:- Ministry of Water Resources GoI, New Delhi Central Water and Power Research Station, Pune India Meteorology Department, New Delhi Central Ground Water Board, New Delhi Central Pollution Control Board, New Delhi National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee Bhakra Beas Management Board, New Delhi Central Water Commission, New Delhi Participating States:- Maharashtra Orissa Tamil Nadu Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh Andhra Pradesh Gujarat Karnataka Kerala Himachal Pradesh Goa Punjab Pondicherry Goals of H.P.:- To improve hydrological database in terms of coverage and accuracy. To improve capacities to store, retrieval and interpretation by means of computerization and advance software’s. To ensure rapid data transfer between various agencies by connecting database through satellite, internet and LAN communication links. To enhance publication and access of information to eligible data users. To impart training to officers and all relevant staff under H.P. Special Studies and Provisions in H.P.(SW): Maharashtra:- Calibration of outlets of Dams and Canals. Study of return flows. Reservoir sedimentation study by Bathymetric Equipment. Installation of Digital Water Level Recorders (DWLR) Water Quality Testing and Monitoring River Basin Simulation Model (RIBASIM) of selected sub-basin. Experiment of Artificial Rain. Water Availability Studies for Water Resources Projects. DSS (Design Support System) for Bhima basin up to Ujani Dam. PDS (Purpose Driven Studies) for optimization of Hydro-meteorological Network and also perspective planning study of water utilization of Jayakwadi Project. Software’s Used :- Surface Water Data Entry System (SWDES) Hydrological Modeling Software (HYMOS) Parameters Checked by SWDES:- Ph Dissolved Oxygen Temperature Chemical Oxygen Demand Biological Oxygen Demand, etc. Rainfall Measurement Equipments:- Standard Rain Gauge (SRG) Data Autographic Rain Gauge (ARG) Data River Gauge Discharge Site (GD) Data Full Climatic Station (FCS) Data, etc. Hydro-Meteorological Stations in Maharashtra:- Sr. Category HP NHP TOTAL No.
