Dear Topic Approval Committee, 
 
In my research paper I hope to answer the following question; “In what ways are programs such as Boy Scouts 
beneficial to youths, and young adults?” I am interested in this topic because I’ve been a part of Scouting my 
entire life and after making the journey from Cub Scout to Eagle Scout I believe that it has helped me in life in 
many ways. I am interested to learn about if other people involved in this program are also aided, and in seeing 
exactly what about Scouting makes it so beneficial. 
 
The Experiential Project I have chosen is to become an adult leader/Assistant Scoutmaster in my old Boy Scout 
Troop, as well as to interview current and former scouts about their experience in scouting, and compile these 
interviews into a short documentary. My hope is that by becoming an adult leader I will be able to help pass on 
everything I’ve learned from Scouting to the next generation of younger scouts. I intend to contact one of my 
former Scoutmasters to be my Mentor 
 
This interdisciplinary project involves research, analysis of the history of scouting, interviews with current and 
former scouts, learning new leadership skills, and volunteer service as an adult Scout leader. 
 
This will be a challenging project since it requires a lot of coordination and work, as well as leading and teaching 
youth scouts ages 13-18, and the filming and video editing required to complete the documentary. At the end 
of my project, my Digital Portfolio will detail the entire experience: the research conducted, the project 
experience, and my volunteer commitment. I anticipate that this will be in total around 20-40 hours of work.
