Capstone Draft Proposal Worksheet

Name: Makayla Salehi

Website: salehimakayla.weebly.com
Topic: Spreading awareness and positivity throughout R.E Mountain
Focus Area: Research and Community
Inquiry Question: How might gaining insight into individuals’ high school experiences
contribute to enhancing the experiences of future generations attending
high school?

1) Capstone Project Summary:

In the box below, please type out 200 – 300 words explanation of what you are planning to do with
your Capstone Project. It should be as specific as possible, detailing what you hope to accomplish.

What I plan to do for my capstone is create an interview video, asking multiple questions towards teachers,
grade 12 students, and graduated students all from REMSS. The questions will involve topics such as
experiences like favorite year of high school and reasoning, worst year and reasoning, most stressful involving
homework/studying, bullying, etc. Everyone's high school experiences are different but have the same
meanings and morals, which is exactly what I want to pick out from this research aspect of my capstone
project. Once I get this information, I will gather with grade 9’s (mainly from my Link Crew group), and I will
ask them some questions about the issues in their grade, so they understand how to resolve the problems. I
will also be giving them information about the previously interviewed individuals to sort of “give out” to the
community, spread kind words and give them insights on the “do’s and don'ts” of high school!

2) Core Competencies:
In the boxes below, explain how your project will demonstrate your abilities and skills from each
section of the Core Competencies. (You must choose at least two points from each skill area of the
core competencies. All the core competencies are attached in the assignment.)

Core Competency (skill area): How you demonstrate it in your Capstone Project:
Personal Awareness & - I will self-motivate myself to keep my work consistent and take
Responsibility responsibility towards accomplishing my goals from small to
large.
- I will ask for help when needed, especially since I am seeking tips
and help from my mother.
Social Responsibility - I will be working independently and collaboratively for the benefit
of others (I will be interviewing and collaborating with different
people, and will put out awareness that benefits others, (the
grade 9’s))
- I can identify and appreciate different perspectives on issues and
use and evaluate strategies to resolve problems (This exactly
explains how I will be using people with different perspectives in
high school, since they had different experiences, and resolving
problems and issues with younger generations)
Critical Thinking - I can assess my progress. I will make sure that I can continuously
create blogs on how I am creating my project, as well as issues
that I will face, and the solutions to them.
- I can ask good quality questions, gather relevant information, and
come up with well-developed conclusions. The way I will succeed
in this particular area is to make sure that my questions are sort
of “up to date” and not simple, and boring. I will make sure to ask
people around me for their opinions. When making a well-
developed conclusion, I will be focused on the outcome of the
project, and its purpose.
Creative Thinking - I can persevere, and understand that failure can be productive. I
already know that I will have to run into failure at one or more
points in this project. I will push through the hard times and get
through them with creative thinking, and ideas to get through.
With video editing, I get frustrated sometimes when applications
don't work quite properly, but with creativeness, there can be
ways around it.
Communication - I can work with other students to plan, inquire, and solve
problems. When finding and issue, I can solve the problems by
trying to fix the problem myself. If I still cannot figure the issues
out, I will use communication and work with other students to
plan out the issues and resolve. Also, when students help me, I
will return the favour and ask if they need any help with their
projects, so it is equal ways.
Personal & Cultural Identity - I understand how to use my strengths and abilities to my
advantage, and I can explain how I use them to contribute to my
community. With this acquirement, I will understand myself, and
my identity to Identify where my strengths are and not just
where, but how I can use them in a positive way to contribute to
my community.

3) Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question.

Explain WHY you are choosing to investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry
connect to your passion(s), purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

My overall goal of this project is to spread awareness and for the next generations to learn about respect in
social environments, as well as leadership, friendship, and the list goes on. Personally, if I were in grade 9
getting spoken to about these importances, I would be super appreciative. This area of inquiry connects to my
passion for positivity. I am super grateful to have people in my life that support me and my journeys with
spreading positivity wherever I am no matter what. It interests me because I have been through so much in
high school but have learnt from it. Even though I would want the grade 9’s to learn by experience, I also don't
want them to go through the hardships I have been through as well as how I state it, the worst couple years of
my life yet. Although I learnt so much from the events, I missed out on so many volunteer and school
opportunities that I wish I had taken. All I want is for the future generations to be happy and continue to
spread kindness throughout the school, as well as others throughout their whole life.

4 ) Background: What background knowledge / connections / prior learning do you have that can help
you to be successful with your project?

As stated before, I had been through rough paths in high school. I have a bunch of connections that I can
most likely create on the spot when speaking to the interviewees. Having good connections with these
people will improve the realness of the interview! I also have a bunch of prior learning with creating
videos, and editing them in different themes, as I have been editing since the beginning of high school. Of
course, I will still run into problems here and there, but I will learn from them which will show a great
responsibility portion of this project.

5) Career connections: What is your intended career area at this point in time? What connections does
this inquiry question have to your life, academic and/ or career goals? What are you hoping to gain from
completing this project (other than graduating or passing CLC 12)?

For the future, I would really enjoy having a career that will lead me to a path that is very social and
improves other people's lives. I love to see changes in people for the better, as I have in the past and that
is exactly why I am making this capstone. I want to continue helping people make correct decisions and
right decisions to not only make others happy, but also themselves.

6) Capstone presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to present your
project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once completed. You may use a
combination of mediums.

o Electronic portfolio: Power Point, Canva or Prezi

o Physical portfolio
o Website
o Video presentation
o YouTube channel
o Prototype
o Product
o Other

I will be using a PowerPoint and video presentation for my capstone. I will start with introducing myself,
my interests, and overall, a bit about myself. I will then get into my capstone and explain the basics of
what I created. I will then show my video (will be in the PowerPoint presentation), and explain my process
of the project, including issues I had run into, and more.
