 INTRODUCTION WITH OBJECTIVES

This portfolio covers all the contents and activities in the subject Community and Public Health
(Laboratory) during the Pre-finals and encompasses the topics which are the Community
Organizing and Development, Occupational Safety and Health Hazard, Environmental Health
Hazard and Community Action Plan.

Community Organizing and Development. The topic concerns about the general welfare of a
certain community with regards to handling and developing ways to assert the well-being of the
said community and to provide solutions to common problems a community has and may face.
The objectives in this topic are:

 To know the importance of community organizing and development in a certain

community.

 To provide solutions towards the problems a certain community has which relates to
community organizing and development.

 To know the basic protocol and practices in order to achieve and maintain the community
organizing and development in a certain community.

Occupational Safety and Health Hazard. The topic gives emphasis towards the precautionary
measures an institution must have and to provide security and safeness among the employees in a
specific workplace. The objectives in this topic are:

 To know the importance of occupational safety in a certain workplace.

 To give awareness towards the health hazards an employee/employer may experience in a

certain workplace.

 To know the basic safety measures to be put through in terms of occupational safety and
health hazards.
Environmental Health Hazard. The topic discusses about the general problems the humans may
experience naturally when tackling about the environment primarily its effects towards the health
of mankind. The objectives of this topic are:

 To know the different kinds of environmental health hazards.

 To know the preventive measures and the safety practices when dealing with
environmental health hazards.

Community Action Plan. The activity covers the underlying problems a certain community has
and may face specifically the major matters when it comes to health. It also encloses solutions to
these modern problems which has become more and more rampant nowadays. The objectives of
this activity are:

 To know the major problems a certain community experiences.

 To provide possible solutions to every classification of these problems.

 To impart knowledge on the basic practices a certain community must do when dealing
with matters which regards to health.
 READING ASSIGNMENT NO. 1

 COMMUNITY ORGANIZING AND DEVELOPMENT

 In your own words, what is the importance of community organizing and development?

For me, the importance of community organizing and development is that it helps people
especially medical professionals to properly determine a problem and can help them
formulate a plan. Also, proper community organizing would help people to carry out the
problem in the most accurate and possible way.

Furthermore, community organizing and development is a process by which a community

works or empowers themselves to identify its needs and to resolve its problems in a
collective and arrange manner. It is also to articulate plans and solutions in resolving
issues.

 As a Medical Technology student, how would you apply your knowledge in organizing
or developing programs in a certain community. Cite an example of a problem of a
certain community, and state the things that you can do in order to have a long term
solution in a particular problem.

As a Medical Technology student, I would apply my knowledge in organizing and

developing programs in a certain community by simply telling them about the basic or
frequent problems a certain community may face and its probable and possible solutions.
In this way, the population living in that community would be aware and can formulate
plans on their own as to its corresponding problem. Also, it would help them to be more
responsible and vigilant in terms of facing a problem in their community.

Example of a problem that a certain community has and may face is the improper
disposal and segregation of garbage as well as littering. This is one of the most common
yet rampant activity or problem a community has. In this case, it won't just affect our
health but also the other inhabitants of our planet which are the animals and also the
abiotic environment.

As a solution to the problem, I would suggest that every household should have their
garbage bins composed of biodegradable, non-biodegradable, for bottles, for plastics and
for hazards. I would also commend to have a community cleaning every month in their
respective community. As to littering, I would suggest to anyone whose seen throwing
garbages everywhere would impose to penalties.

In this way, people would be more aware and educated on how to be a responsible
individual in their community. In addition, it would help them to be vigilant at all times
especially in terms of facing problems which concerns with their community.
 READING ASSIGNMENT NO. 2

 OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH HAZARDS

 In your own words, what is the importance of occupational safety and health in a certain
workplace?

For me, occupational safety and health in a certain workplace is very important it is
because it deals about almost all of the aspects in work specifically physical, mental and
social health. Also, it brings safety to the well-being of the company as well as to both
the employees and the employers in a way that they feel safe and secure knowing that
their managements are contemplating the occupational health and safety be established.

In addition, the occupational safety and health is very important in a workplace because
employees desire to work in a safe and protected ambiance without the worry of any
ungrateful events that might happen. Also, it is the management's duty and responsibility
to allocate their time and attention to think and pursue strategies on what are the safety
precautions their company needs in order for their employees to be well and secure at all
times.

In this case, promoting occupational safety and health in a certain workplace would be of
great aid especially when there are unexpected incidents in which both the employees and
employers already have an objective or plan on what to do since they have knowledge on
what are the possible solutions to the problems.

 Identify as many types of occupation in the school as you can.

 Admission Director - is responsible for recruiting and evaluating new students. They give
campus tours, discuss curriculum with parents and students, manage entrance exams,
distribute scholarships and go to private school fairs to represent the school.
 Professor/Teacher - is responsible for giving or implanting knowledge to the students.
They help the students to grow well mentally in different subjects and manners.

 School Nurse - is responsible for -in-all school medical needs, including assessing ill or
injured students, contacting parents, administering medication and supporting the health
and wellness of students and staff.

 Librarian - typically work closely to both teachers and students and offers support with
technology and assists students and teachers in finding books and other reference
materials.

 Janitor - is the one responsible for keeping the premises of the university and other
establishments clean and tidy as well as its maintenance .

 School Counselor - plays a big role in the life of students as they help identify the
interests for a potential major, and considers colleges and universities.

 Electrical Technician - responsible for all the problems in the institution may it be with
any faculty, elevator and other matter which relates to electricity.

 Executive Assistant - may help a school administrator stay organize, order supplies for
staff, maintains school attendance or medical records, edit documents and direct school
visitors or phone calls.

 Administrative Director - responsible for almost that concerns with the whole institution.
Mostly gives the rules and regulations and decides for what's best for the management.

 Identify possible health hazards in each type of occupation. Give comments or

recommendations.

 Admission Director - Risk: psychological stress, possible transmission of disease, and

pressure. For me, admission director should have a proper working space and effective
strategy plan when it comes to dealing with new students and coping with an up-to-date
approach to have an effective objective.
 Professor/Teacher - Risk: disease transmission, workplace violence, work-related stress
and ergonomic issues. In my opinion, for them to be able to work efficiently, they should
have a proper workstation and faculties so that they would be able to assess the students
effectively and can impart knowledge on them without any worries regarding to problems
which relates to their health.

 School Nurse - Risk: disease transmission, stress and exposure to infectious pathogens.
School nurses are one of the most vulnerable staff in an institution so they must have all
the materials they needed, and also uniforms. They should also have a wide working
place so that he/she can accomodate all the students' needs in terms of their health.

 Librarian - Risk: psychological stress, inadequate working stations, inadequate lighting,

also has risk of slips and trips, dusts, and poor indoor air quality. In this case, librarians
should have a pleasant working station so that he or she may be able to assist and help the
students and staffs better and also for them to be comfortable.

 Janitor - Risk: repetitive injuries, risk of trips, slips and falls, musculoskeletal injuries
caused by strains and overexertion, and possible respiratory problems. In my opinion,
janitors should have protective gears especially when cleaning any means of chemical
stains and other harmful wastes.

 School Counselor - Risk: psychological stress, depression, discomfort, chronic irritability

and impatience. School counselors are the ones responsible for assessing the health of the
students mentally and emotionally. In this case, this would have a great effect on them
especially for those mentally unhealthy and anguish students, so school counselors should
be provided a wide working space with a palatable atmosphere so that they would be able
to work effectively.

 Electrical Technician - Risk: fatal electrical shock, electrical burns, working in confined
spaces, fire, extreme temperatures, welding hazards including UV radiation. These are
 the risks associated by the Electrical Technician and for me, for them to be able to be safe
from the possible health hazards, they should have proper garments or required uniforms
for their protection.

 Executive Assistant - Risk- psychological stress, pressure and dejection. For me, being an
executive assistant is a stressful work since you have to always assist the administrative
director at all cost, replacement or in-charge or everything whenever the director is not
around so he or she would likely to be pressured. So for me, he or she should have a
proper planning of events to avoid being delayed and should have efficient people who
can also assist him or her.

 Administrative Director - psychological stress which regards to financial stability and

proper budget management, workloads, pressure, and depression. Since administrative
directors handles almost all the issues and problems which regards to the institutions, he
or she is the one most likely to be in stress. In this case, he or she must have effective and
trusted people who can help him or her at all cost when dealing with institutional
problems.

 ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH HAZARD

 In your own words, what is the importance of knowing the environmental health hazards?

Environmental health hazards are chemicals, substances, and an event or state which has
the potential to threaten or affect the natural environment as well as a risk to people's
health which best includes the natural disasters and also, man-made. Environmental
 health hazards can be seen or acquired within our surroundings. Environmental health
hazards can be classified into many aspect, whether may it be physical, social or mental.

Physical in a way of pollution either in air, water, and also land. It can also be in food
contaminants and toxic chemicals and substances. It is also in social in which it can be in
dangerous works especially in construction, poor housing conditions such as those who
are living in secluded and squater's area, urban sprawl, and even poverty. In addition, it
also affects the people mentally in a way that it would cause trauma due to natural
occurrences like flood, earthquakes, storms and many more. It is very dangerous in a way
that we does not know on what are we holding to or who are we interacting with are
possible environmental health hazards so we need to be vigilant amd attentive when it
comes to our health because it is the primary host of the hazard. Keeping ourselves and
our surroundings clean, having an appropriate sanitation and proper hygiene are some of
the many ways on how to make ourselves healthy.

In this case, it is very important for us to know the environmental health hazards for us to
be aware and ready at all times whenever unforeseen or sudden events happen. This way,
we may be able to face and overcome the challenges knowing that we have the
knowledge and for us to be able to distant ourselves of the things that could risk our lives.
We must also have our surroundings be clean not just to protect ourselves but also the
people around us.

 COMMUNITY ACTION PLAN

INTRODUCTION

Before this pandemic COVID-19 arises, there are already many problems in our society our
country is facing. Some are given attention and solutions while others are being ignored and
neglected. Some of these common problems are about lactating mothers, teenage pregnancy,
sanitation and proper hygiene and most especially is the malnutrition in which, it is considered as
highly rampant these days not just in our country but also around the world. This problems have
been quantitatively increasing as well as affecting our country and also ourselves.
 In line with this phenomena, and Philippines being entitled as one of the low-performing
countries in the world in terms of economy while experiencing this kind of problems has been
immensely devastating. A single unsolved matter affects not just the people but also greatly
affects the performance and status of the country. In addition, as we are now facing a big new
problem, these people are the most vulnerable ones knowing that they are already struggling on
their own.

Furthermore, a big problem can be solved starting with small steps, in this case, a community
action plan has been made in order to give importance and attention towards this cases and to
promote ways and solutions in order the lessen and mostly eradicate these major problems.
Formulating this community action plan serves as a start-up to finally make a phase of good
solutions and better outcomes.

This community action plan is made to improve the situation with regards to the problems
stated above. To provide plans and solutions and to help impart knowledge about the basic

hygiene are some of the many ways of being healthy.

Moreover, the expected outcome for this community action plan is that people in the certain

case, these problems in the Pagsabangan, which is the target community, would hopefully
subside when these plans are applied.

In conclusion, it is very important to know on what are the underlying necessities when it
comes to the physical health. It is the foundation of ourselves so it is needed to be taken care
of. Following simple processes and precautions would be of great help especially when
experiencing this kind of phenomena. It is very important to be healthy not just for ourselves
but also for the people around us.

Community Organizing and Development. It is very important for a community leader to

know on what are the common problems within his or her range of responsibility. Also, it is
better for ourselves to be responsible enough on what are the right thing to do when it comes
to the betterment of the community. We should know on what are the basic practices and
measures on how can we get and maintain the good reputation and ambiance of the
community. In this way, the community organizing and development will be achieved.

Occupational Safety and Health Hazard. In this this aspect, it is very important to give
emphasis on the Occupational Safety in every workplace to ensure the safety and security of
the employees as well as the employers. It is necessary to know the precautionary measures
to be conducted i order to have an understanding and the knowledge on what are the possible
health hazards which relates to their occupation and how to deal with it. In this case, they
will be able to assess theirselves on what are the safety measures to perform. the

Environmental Health Hazard. With regards to this topic, it is important to know on what are
the possible environmental health hazards so that we would be aware on what to do incase of
contact or experiencing this type of health hazards. Having an additional knowledge when it
comes to this type of incidents is very important so that we may be able to be aware of our
safety and most especially, to our health. In addition, being aware and being vigilant when it
comes to this situations do not just help ourselves, but also the people that surrounds us.

Community Action Plan. This project focuses on the major problems to a certain community
in which it highlights the importance of getting rid and to lessen the cases of the following
matters. In this case, it is very important to have the knowledge when it comes to these
 certain problems and on how to deal and to provide solutions. Also, it is important to know
the practices and habits in order to keep ourselves clean and our body healthy.
