Introduction

A fast food restaurant, also known as a quick service restaurant (QSR) within the
industry, is a specific type of restaurant that serves fast food cuisine and has minimal table
service. The food served in fast food restaurants is typically part of a "meat-sweet diet",
offered from a limited menu, cooked in bulk in advance and kept hot, finished and packaged
to order, and usually available for take away, though seating may be provided.
Fast food restaurants are typically part of a restaurant chain or franchise operation that
provides standardized ingredients and/or partially prepared foods and supplies to each
restaurant through controlled supply channels.

Domino's Pizza
Domino's Pizza, Inc. branded as Domino's, is an American multinational pizza restaurant
chain founded in 1960. The corporation is headquartered at the Domino's Farms Office Park
in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The Domino's menu varies by region. The current Domino's menu in the United States
features a variety of Italian-American main and side dishes. Pizza is the primary focus, with
traditional, specialty, and custom pizzas available in a variety of crust styles and toppings. In
2011, Domino's launched artisan-style pizzas. Additional entrees include pasta, bread bowls,
and oven-baked sandwiches. The menu offers chicken and bread sides, as well as beverages
and desserts.
From its founding until the early 1990s, the menu at Domino's Pizza was kept simple relative
to other fast food restaurants, to ensure efficiency of delivery. Historically, Domino's menu
consisted solely of one style of pizza crust in two sizes (12-inch and 16-inch), 11 toppings,
and Coca-Cola as the only soft drink option.

Processes involved in the operations of Domino’s Pizza.

The main operations within Domino’s Pizza are:

Procurement of raw materials and machinery: The main strategies used by McDonald
have to maintain the inventory is JIT, Just in Time. JIT can be defined as a production system
to produce a kind of unit needed, at the time needed and in the quantities needed. Another
strategy that is used by the restaurant is the First in First out (FIFO). According to this
strategy the make it a point to sell product that have arrived earlier first and then the latter
ones. The whole stock management process is designed in such a manner that this principle
of Just in Time and First in First Out is strictly followed.

In order to control the quality standards of its products Domino’s has strict requirements on
the ingredients, assembly, and cooking of its products.  To maintain quality standards, the
company requires franchise stores to purchase the dough, cheese, and sauce from its
corporate distribution centres.  Dough is made at the distribution centres to further ensure
consistency and reduce preparation activities at stores.  The distribution centre also provide
toppings, equipment and other restaurant consumables like boxes and cleaning supplies
franchisees are required to purchase all these items from the distribution centres.

Production and Quality Maintenance: In this phase the raw materials used are converted
into finished products that are presented to the customers. This is a very important step. The
kitchen crew is trained to produce the products by following a standard protocol. Every
product that is created in the McDonald’s kitchen has to follow the protocol so as to maintain
the standard and quality of the products. Every item that is produced has a certain shelf life
after which it is declared to be unfit for consumption. Hence the food items are produced
solely on the basis of demands.
Advertising and Marketing: Domino’s Pizza uses many channels of advertising like print
media, bill boards, television advertisements and also sponsorship. Any new product that
enters the menu is well advertised and marketed by the company. They create a great amount
of awareness of the product that is being launched. Thus attracting the customers to their
outlets.  Vouchers are also provided to the customers.
Customer Service: The aim of the company is to make the experience at the restaurant a
unique one. This is only possible by providing excellent customer service. The company
trains the newly recruited employees for providing excellent customer service. The crew
members are asked to be sensitive to the needs of the customers.

The process starts from the top of the installation which is receiving the order from the
customer. Once the order is received with the customer’s preferences, the staff starts to
prepare the pizza. Starting from kneading of dough to placing the customer preferred
toppings. The preparation is then shifted to the baking area where it gets baked in an
industrial size oven. Post baking, the finished product is ready to be delivered either to the
customer’s location (in case of a home delivery) or in the facility itself (in case of a dine-in
order).

Recommendations
The major issue in Domino’s Pizza is the high rate of attrition. Below are some of the points
that would help in retaining the employees. Another problem that is faced by the organisation
is a health issue.

retention.

Supply chain of Domino’s Pizza

The supply chain of Domino’s Pizza starts from the suppliers selected by the company to
supply all the different raw materials required for making Domino’s Pizza. These suppliers
supply the materials to a centralized Domino’s distribution centre. The distribution centre
then created dough from the wheat supplied and other condiments. Once done, these
processed raw materials are then transported to the retail stores every single day where the
store staff use them to create the finished good, i.e a baked pizza.
