Subject: ABM20/25 Roof and Rib Bolter Control Options

Purpose

To inform the industry of the options available to improve the bolter control systems, with respect to recent
operator injuries on ABM Miners.

Applicable to

All ABM 20/25 Miners fitted with VA Logic Block Bolter Controls.

Description
The proposed options Sandvik has available are as follows:

PREFERED OPTION
Replace the VA Logic Block Bolter Controls with the newly developed Roof and Rib Bolter controls.

These new controls offer:

• two handed ‘deadman’ operation on all bolting functions including rotation.
• slow speed ‘approach’ pressure for single hand use of the feed circuit
• two handed operation of auxiliary functions, such as mesh carrier, ladders, platforms, etc.
• conversion to load sensing functionality.

TEMPORARY OPTION [Roof Bolter ONLY]

Upgrading of the Roof Bolter VA Logic Block Controls to partial two handed operation with a bolt-on
conversion. An additional ‘deadman’ lever can be installed on the left side of the roof bolter control valve. This
requires the operator to use both hands for moving tilt functions, timberjack and for latching the semi
automatic drilling functions.
In addition, a single handed slow speed, low pressure ‘approach’ manual feed can be installed remote from
the control valve block.
AND
Replacing the primary function levers for rotation, feed and timberjack with shaped levers as per the NSW DPI
Bolting Guideline MDG35.1.
The previously released Sandvik Technical Bulletin TB0702 provided ordering details for these shaped levers.
