Installation Manual

1 INTRODUCTION
This Installation Manual describes the installation of the
Kongsberg Maritime Remote I/O based Dynamic Positioning
Cabinets for the variants listed on the front page.
The cabinets are used to control and monitor the processes in
Kongsberg Maritime Dynamic Positioning systems.
A DPC is built up in a modular way so that it may be extended
at any time and it makes the system very flexible. A Dynamic
Positioning Cabinet contains the following modules:
• Remote I/O modules.
• Net connection sockets.
• Power supplies.
• Circuit breakers.
• Cable trays.
• Field cable entry area with Mar-Con Multigate plates.
• Protective earth (PE) bar for cable shield termination.
• Instrument earth (IE) bar.
• Earth bolt.
Refer to Kongsberg Maritime drawing number 1001550 for an
illustration of cabinet layout.
WARNING The equipment includes high voltage (115/230V).

Note Unless stated otherwise, all installation work described in this

document is to be performed by yard/customer personnel.
It is the responsibility of the yard/customer to assure that their
installation personnel are sufficiently qualified, and that proper
caution is taken to avoid injuries or damage to life, health,
environment, equipment and property.

3 INSTALLATION

3.1 Handling
A DPC is lifted by crane. Use slings attached to the eyebolts
fitted on the top of the cabinet (refer to Figure 1).
The equipment contains delicate electronic components – handle
accordingly.
WARNING Never, ever pass or stay, complete or partly, under any lifted
object.

3.2 Mechanical installation

The DPC is a wall / bulkhead mounted cabinet. The enclosed
Kongsberg Maritime drawing number 1002018 shows the
necessary dimensions for the installation of the cabinet.

3.3 Electrical installation

For electrical installation of the Field Station Cabinet refer to the
Cable List and Cable Details documents for the actual project.
Note All cables entering or leaving a Field Station Cabinet must have
outer metallic screen/armour for electromagnetic noise
protection.
All cables entering or leaving the Field Station Cabinet must
pass through one of the EMC protective cable entrance plates (2
off Mar-Con Multigate plates in the bottom of the Field Station
Cabinet. The Mar-Con Multigate plates are installed at delivery
(refer to Kongsberg Maritime drawing number 1002018).
Note Cable termination and earthing details is described in the
document: Earthing, Screening and Power Supply Principles
(Kongsberg Maritime document. number 161012).

3.3.1 Cable coating removal

All cables must have their coating removed until below the Mar-
Con Multigate plate, bringing a cable’s outer screen/armour into
full 360° contact with its Mar-Con Multigate plate, which at
delivery are connected to earth system. For example on hole
making in the Mar-Con Multigate plate, refer to Kongsberg
Maritime drawing number 504378.

Note It is the Yard responsibility to remove the outer sheet for the
part of the cable passing through the Mar-Con Multigate plates.

3.3.2 Cable strain relief

All cables entering or leaving the Field Station Cabinet must be
equipped with a strain relief. For example on strain relieving,
refer to Kongsberg Maritime drawing number 503757.
Note It is the Yard responsibility to supply all cables entering or
leaving a Field Station Cabinet with proper strain relief.
