*Good Morning! I hope you are all well today. What beautiful days we have been having! One of my favorite things
about this time of year is that the hummingbirds have come back. I have a hummingbird feeder right outside the
window into my little office where I work on my computer, etc. Sometimes I leave the window open and the
hummingbirds will actually fly into my office, look around, and fly away. It is kind of a calming event.
*The “Island” group finished yesterday. That book is so popular with many people – with our group it was a hit and a
miss within our students. The hero of the story, Karana, is finally rescued after 18 years on the island by herself. Within
a few weeks, a surprising event happens. We watched a short video called “The Lost Woman of San Nicolas” that shared
more of the story of the real person. Thanks to Zoe, Bennita, Lesly, and Kam of the Green
Couch Island.
*Tomorrow is the big end of year Zoom meeting with the Bigs and Littles. Should be a good celebration of nice
memories.
*Tomorrow and Monday are days to turn in your school computer, library books, power cords, and a mouse if you have
one. Keep the “Island of the Blue Dolphins” book and the two books you were given at the first packet pickup. SEND
BACK your library books.
*Today will be one-on-one or very small group interviews with each of you either on Teams or the phone. Be thinking
about what was helpful to you or your family from the school during this time and what you might want more support
with if we have to do this again.
*Finish up your week’s work today so it can be scored tonight.
*Schedule for Interviews (Parents are invited to sit in with the students OR let Mr. Aslett know to call you separately).

*Good Morning! Was your long weekend a good time for you and your family? The weather was almost perfect. In
Provo we had one of those big windstorms that some of you had last week. We had trees down and it made you
appreciate the days when the weather is so good to be out in.
*This is the last week of our experience together on-line. I am happy and sad. Are you the same? Happy that we will
get to the end of our 5th grade tough time together and sad that we won’t see you until next year. It’s kind of the same
happy/sad every year. This one is special because of the conditions that we and our nation (and our world) have with
COVID-19.
*But, we’re not yet done ! You will have several assignments this week to complete. AND you who are Littles have
your Zoom meeting with your Bigs on Friday. AND you will be turning in your equipment at Bennion on Friday or next
week. You can turn it in any day now but at different places.
*For you and your parents……… As far as I can determine, you will have access to RAZ, ST, Lexia, and MMM all summer.
You may want to set up daily work schedules and complete an assignment in each of these four areas (extra RAZ for Z, J,
L, M). You would need your family computer to do this. My understanding is that Bennion computers are coming back
in this week and next.
*Those of you who have $$ coming to you…..I haven’t yet decided how to get that to you. I will check this week with the
District and with a local bank to see if money is safe yet to pass to someone.
*Weekly reports will be going out later today.
*For today, we will NOT have a class Teams meeting. Mr. Aslett is in Salt Lake all day.

*Good Morning! So good to see the “Island” people yesterday in their chat (Lesly, Zoe, Bennita, and Kam)
and to see the “Thank you’s” turned in for some of those who did so much for us on Tuesday’s drive through. Yay for
Julian, Lesly, and Zoe. If you haven’t done yours yet, see #1 below.
*Some of you will be turning in your equipment starting today and continuing to next week. You can turn in your
equipment in several schools. If you want to turn your equipment in at Bennion, you can only do that on May 29 and on
June 2. If you turn in your equipment, would you please Dojo me so I will know how to communicate with you.
*Good to see and hear from Xio, Marley, and Andrea yesterday. They and their classmates are making real
strides in connecting. Thanks, Girls and their Classmates!
*Monday, May 25 is Memorial Day and there will not be any assignments.
*Bennita, Zoe, and Lesly have been asked to write a paragraph each about how they have helped or could
support a classmate if we need to do this on-line experience like this again. We will publish these on Dojo School Story.
If you would like to, you are more than invited to send a paragraph via DOJO or Text telling how you think classmates
could support each other if we do this again and they will also be published. We want them by Tuesday of next week so
people can see your ideas before they turn in their equipment. If your parents have ideas, please ask them to send
their ideas to us also. Thank you!

*Wow! What a treat to see so many of you yesterday at Bennion and then again later for the class chat. At Bennion, we
saw Zoe, Payton, Kam, Marley, Luis, Lesly, Xio, and Andrea (it seems that Yassin and Nyiema have moved and Julian lives
way out in West Jordan). Each and all looking way too cool Some of you seemed so much taller than before!
*Today will be changed up from most days. For today, we will let go of Raz, Lexia, and MMM. Let’s try a couple of
different things.

*Good Morning! We are nearing the end of May, the weather is beautiful, some of the COVID-19 restrictions are being
pulled back…. Hopefully this week will go very well for each of the families and students.
*Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 19, we are glad that you each and all might drive by Bennion to receive a goodie bag, the art
kit and books from Ms. Winslow, and lots of love from your teachers who miss you. We are at Bennion from 10:00 –
12:00 on Tuesday.

*Good Morning! Great day to start our science lesson – on the traits of animals and plants. This will be a cool lesson
that will last all week.
*I hope your Monday was a good day for you and for your family. Today is another beautiful day - the kind we usually
have in May.

*Hmmmm…. I am still wondering about this week’s game but it will be different because it will be based on just the
individual and your own efforts. A couple of you did so very well but our partners didn’t reach the same level. This
week, I hope we have 100% of us enjoying a game…. I will let you know as soon as it is decided.
*Big news….. Lesly finished ST math! Very few reach this goal but Lesly did on Saturday.
*Big news….. Julian finished Lexia! Julian joins the “Group of 3” who are now the “Group of 4”.
*Helpful news….Bennita, Zoe, Lesly, and Kam helped us work through the bugs to get to where we can do
small group work in Teams. Way cool – we will meet as a group and then go into a small group to
discuss/work/complete and then come back to the big group to share out. Thanks for your help, Guys.
**Today, Mr. Aslett has two meetings so he will complete the Daily Learning Routine chart later today. For our work to
start the week, let’s jump on our RAZ, LEXIA, MMM, “Island” this morning and we will look at the rest of the week

*Good Morning! All well? I hope so – that all of you, your families, and friends and neighbors are healthy today. Lots of
things for parents to be thinking about these days. Hooray for our Parents who try to
help us!

*Some StarRock moments yesterday… Zoe got onto Teams yesterday and did her “Island of the Blue Dolphins”
jeopardy game – She had to get 8/10…she got 9/10 Kam was so helpful in figuring out some math goals that
might end up helping several of us. Lesly advanced to 97% in ST! Andrea and Zoe were both logged in to
ST yesterday - Wow if we could have 3 people in the 80s or 90s it would be better than we could have hoped! Luis is
still working on his hotspot – the family’s friend is coming by tomorrow to help him. Marley is trying to get a new
power cable today. Sounds like as they were moving to their new apartment the cord was lost – it happens.
Bennita and Lesly helped out with an extra Teams chat yesterday – thank you. Xio is having trouble with Teams
but she is such a person….she continues to work in MMM and Raz and Lexia. Go, Xio! Julian doesn’t have a
chance – his parents are helping him develop some great habits and to report in daily. No chance now is your best
chance later, Julian! I think Payton got eaten up by his big dog . We miss you, Nyiema! Call us.
*Pizza People will be announced this evening after all work is turned in. Looking forward to it. Remember, as
you have worked hard even if your team doesn’t get pizza , you can still earn your $$ (and buy your own
pizza when this is over ).

*Yesterday’s chat with the “Island of the Blue Dolphins” group was hilarious. We play a game of jeopardy with
Lesly, Bennita, and Kam. (Zoe’s computer bonked out on her ) It was a close event throughout
(mostly) and the final winner, representing all the boys, was Kam.
*This is day 4 for Pizza People on Saturday. Three of the teams are pretty close right now. At 6:00 pm
tomorrow, the Pizza Team will be announced. There are only two people on each team so you need to depend
on each other!
*Cool news….. in ST math (that we stopped using for a while), to reach a score in the 75% range is way impressive. Well,
we have Andrea who continues with ST and has reached 75% as of yesterday. Zoe is at 85%, and Lesly,
last night, hit 91%. Three impressive performances. Congrats to these students. I hope that others reach 50%, 60%,
75%, or higher and that these three reach as close to 100% as they can.
*Today is a “continue your work” day. I will look at points tonight and see which team is cookin’! Later today, I will let
you know which Pizza Team is yours.
