There are plans to tear down an old cinema in the town where you live.

Write
a letter to the authorities stating why you think this should not be done, and
suggesting alternative ways in which the building might be used.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing in the hope that the following advice will be of some assistance to
you. Passing by the old cinema from the center of the town, I could not help
myself but think that its demolition should be prohibited.

To begin with, I would like to offer one or two suggestions concerning the cultural
controversy which has took over our town during the past weeks. As you may
already know, the cinema is part of the national heritage, having an impressive
background, representing a significant symbol of this town. That is one of the
reasons why the demolition plan should be immediately aborted.

In my opinion, your best course of action would be to restore the building in order
use it in an alternative way, such as a cultural center where people could learn
about the history of their town. In this way, it would be beneficent not only to the
local economy, due to the fact that building it from scratch is quite expensive, but
also to serve its purpose of entertaining the people.

Secondly, its enormous festivities hall can be used to hold conferences and all
types of artistic and literary activities. As a result, multiple events can be held at
once alleviating the congestion and people could improve their creativity enjoying
themselves in a proper environment.

While I understand the significance and importance of freeing up central space as

much as possible, I do not believe that this change of plans might interfere with
the future development of the area and the residents’ opinion should not be
overlooked.

To sum up, I believe that a compromise could be made so that money would be
spent to meet our community’s needs.
