Sequence Text Structure

Paragraph Writing Assignment

This week we are learning about the Sequence text structure. We have practiced
reading texts that use this structure, and now you will have a chance to practice writing
a sequence-structured paragraph.

Assignment: Draft a paragraph that describes how to do something. The paragraph

should be at least 5 sentences long, and it should use your best grammar, capitalization
and punctuation. Remember to use sequence words (first, second, next, then, finally) in
your paragraph to organize your steps. Email your paragraph to Megan at

Sample Paragraph

There are several steps to making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. First, you
need to get two slices of bread, peanut butter, jelly, and a knife. Next, use the knife to
spread a thin layer of peanut butter on one side of one piece of bread. Then, use the
knife to spread some jelly on one side of the other piece of bread. Finally, match the
peanut butter side of the one piece of bread with the jelly side of the other to make the
sandwich. After you’ve completed these simple steps, you have a delicious peanut
butter and jelly sandwich to enjoy for either a meal or snack.
