Topic: Against the law

Dear Students,

In units 2 and 3, you will make a video about a crime situation.

Here are the steps to complete the assignment:

Step 1:
a. Find a photo of a crime situation like this:

b. Get at least 5 expressions from weblink Speaking: Describe a photo or picture in


Practice resources in Unit 2 file on Blackboard.

Step 2:
Prepare a script describing what is happening in the picture. Talk about:
• the place
• the people in the situation
• what the people are doing
• the people’s feelings

Example:
Sample script:
Hello. Look at this photo. This is a bad thing, isn’t it? This is
a photo of a robbery in a bank in Norway. There are lots of
people. I think this man in a red shirt is the thief. Here this
police officer is looking for the thief. He says, “Follow that
man! He has the missing money!” This woman is terrified. Is
the thief in prison now? We don’t know. I hope the judge is
responsible Thanks for watching! Bye!

Step 3:
Stand in front of the camera and record yourself in a video showing the picture (You can use
your cell phone.) and tell us about the crime situation.
Practice several times before recording the final version of your video.

Here are some things to keep in mind while recording your video:
 Speak as clearly as possible.
 Smile.
 Be in a well-lit area.
 Be confident.
 Look at the camera when you speak.
 Don’t just read.

Some guidelines to make your video:

 Use vocabulary and grammar structures studied in Units 2 and 3:


 vocabulary about crime
 this, that, these, those
 be: short answers
 be: tag questions
 Expressions from weblink Speaking: Describe a photo or picture in Practice
resources in Unit 2 file on Blackboard.
 Your video should last about 1 minute or 1 minute and a half (1’-1’30).
 Use youtube.com to make the video. Test your video works well before sending the
link. Change video privacy setting to “Public” so your teacher can view it.
 You can also use any other software to make your video.
 You have to paste the link of your video and the script (the script is referential) in the
Assignment section (Actividad in Unit 3) on Blackboard.
 Use the template below (See page 3).

Assessment criteria:
 pronunciation and intonation
 fluency
 accuracy
 task achievement (clarity and use of webcam)

Script:
Hello everyone, you can see this photo. It is right to arrest a thief, isn't it? This
image happened in Lima, near the main square last year. There are three
people at the moment and they are very surprised by what happened. The
police found this thief attacking his victim and went to rescue him. I suppose it
going to prison for his crimes. Thanks for watching! Bye!.
