Power System Protection Lab Experiments

The document outlines 7 additional experiments for a power system protection lab: 1) Plot the characteristics of an impedance relay. 2) Demonstrate negative sequence relay protection of a 3-phase alternator against unbalanced loads. 3) Demonstrate the effect of CT saturation on a bus bar protection scheme and use a stabilizing resistor. 4) Demonstrate transformer inrush protection using harmonic restraint on a percentage differential relay.

Additional Experiments for The Power System Protection Lab

1. Study the construction of an impedance relay and perform an experiment to plot its characteristics.
(Requirement Impedance Relay)
2. Study the operation of a Negative sequence relay and perform an experiment of to carry out
protection of 3-phase alternator against unbalanced load by use of negative sequence relay.(Do it
Our self)
3. Carry out an experiment to demonstrate the effect of saturation of one of the CTs of a bus bar
having two incoming and one out going feeder in case of an external fault. Find the value of
stabilizing resistor and demonstrate its effect to show that the system remains stable even in case of
external fault and one of the CTs getting saturated. (CTs Required)
4. Perform an experiment to carry out protection of a transformer against INRUSH Current by using
Harmonic Constraint on a %differential Relay. (CTs Required)
5. To set up an experiment to demonstrate the working of Simple Differential scheme by using
overcurrent solid state relay.
6. To carry out an experiment for the protection of a 3phase Star-Delta Transformer using
Percentage Differential Protection Scheme by using overcurrent solid state relay.(CTs required)
7. To carry out an experiment for the protection of a Busbar using simple and high impedance
differential protection using solid state relay. (CTs required)
Requirements:

 Impedance relay
 Protection CTS ….Qty 4
