This course covers the principles of human-computer interaction and the design and
evaluation of user interfaces. Topics include an overview of human information processing
subsystems (perception, memory, attention, and problem solving); Concept and Design of HCI,
Course Description HCI and Web: problems and Promises, Universal Computing, Virtual and Augmented Reality
Other topics may include World Wide Web design principles and tools, computer-
supported cooperative work, multimodal and "next generation" interfaces, speech and natural
language interfaces, and virtual reality interfaces.
At the end of the course, the learner must be able to:

 Explain the capabilities of both humans and computers from the viewpoint of human
information processing.
 Explain and apply core theories and models from the field of HCI.
 Design and implement useful, usable, and engaging graphical computer interfaces.
 Describe typical human–computer interaction (HCI) models, styles, and various historic
HCI paradigms.
Course Objectives  Apply an interactive design process and universal design principles to designing HCI
systems.
 Describe and use HCI design principles, standards and guidelines.
 Discuss tasks and dialogs of relevant HCI systems based on task analysis and dialog
design.
 Analyze and discuss HCI issues in groupware, universal computing, virtual reality,
multimedia, and Word Wide Web-related environments.
