Proposed Title No. 1

TITLE: Plant Growth Analysis of Vegetables Using Fish Amino Acid Fertilizer

REASON(S) / JUSTIFICATION(S) IN CHOOSING THE TOPIC:

Fish waste has been one of the problems having a great impact on the water environment.
Fish tissues including fish, head, skin, scales, gills and viscera were discarded as they are
considered as waste. Ghaly (2013) explained that the fish waste could cause reduction of oxygen
on water wherein overloads of nitrogen, phosphorous and ammonia. This could lead to pH
variation, increased turbidity of the water and as a result of the decomposition of algae. The
reduction in water oxygen content creates an anaerobic condition that leads to the release of foul
gases such as hydrogen sulfide and ammonia, organic acids and greenhouse gases such as carbon
dioxide and methane that could be dangerous to other organisms.

The researcher found that fish tissues from Tilapia (Oreochomis niloticus), milk fish
(Chanos chanos) and galunggong (Alepes melanoptera) were the common disposed the City of
San Jose del Monte. In line with this, the researcher would like to propose the use of trash
materials from the aforementioned variety of fish waste to produce fish amino acid fertilizer. The
researcher believed that this could help to enhance and promote the project of the Department of
Education Gulayan sa Paaralan as well as to develop the skills of the learners.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE GROWTH OF KNOWLEDGE IN TEACHING

SCIENCE

The result of the study will be used in enhancing gulayan sa paaralan and promoting
urban gardening of the nearby baranggays. The teacher could encourage the learners educate and
conduct community service by reechoing the outcome of this research.

Proposed Title No. 2

TITLE: Phenomenological Study of Urban Gardening in Sapang Palay: How Does Urban
Vegetable Gardening Activity Affect the Daily Lives of the Gardeners and their Sense of
Community?

REASON(S) / JUSTIFICATION(S) IN CHOOSING THE TOPIC:

Over the past fifteen years, The researcher have seen a rapid growthin real estate
developments especially in the highly urbanized areas of City of San Jose del Monte Bulacan .
As a result, spacious residential places within the city center have become more expensive, as
cuts are designed to be more cost efficient.  More urban residents now live in residential
developments where open spaces are limited, and living areas are more compact. In modern
urban areas, particularly in industrialized cities , the importance of a “ sense of community at the
local level has been somewhat altered due to a variety of causes. The availability of Internet has
allowed us to get information or make friends without physically interacting with each other.
Drescher, Holmer & Iaquanta ( 2006 ) explained one potential means to affect people’s sense of
community is urban agriculture defined as “ food production practices that take place in and
around cities.”

The researcher found out that urban gardening in the Sapang Palay is not observe
nowadays. In line with this the researcher would like to propose to understand potential risks
associated with soil contamination and to implement healthy gardening practices and to
understand the real experience of Urban Gardening in Sapang Palay, which is the urban part of
City of San Jose del Monte and how a sample Sapang Palay people perceive sense of
community. The researcher believed that this could help to enhance and promote the project of
the Department of Education Gulayan sa Paaralan as well as to develop the skills of the learners.

Proposed Title No. 3

TITLE: Enhancing Gulayan Sa Paaralan in San Jose del Monte National Trade School Through
Hydroponics System

REASON(S) / JUSTIFICATION(S) IN CHOOSING THE TOPIC:

Contaminated soil is one of the problem in urban area. Even if the soil in some areas are
healthy and rich , it may be hiding secret contamination from the past. Hydroponic system do not
require pesticides, require less water and space than traditional agricultural systems and may be
stacked in order to limit space use ( Growing Power, 2011; Marginson 2010). Hydroponic is a
system of agriculture that utilizes nutrient laden water rather than the soil for plant nourishment (
Bridgewood , 2003 ).Because it does not require natural precipitation or fertile land in order to be
effective.

The researcher found that to update report that there is no single school in City of San
Jose del Monte practice hydroponic planting in relation to gulayan sa paaralan and to use this
method in gardening is to help the students who are suffering from malnutrition and hunger and
also to prevent them to force stop or drop from the school. Most of the area don't have adequate
soil to continue to produce all of their required vegetables. Sapang Palay has very little free
space, and deforestation in remaining areas can lead to severe flash floods. This makes
hydroponics gardening an ideal solution for their unique situations.
