U.P. Diliman Native Tree Walk


July 2, 2011

Have you ever seen the following native trees: dita, kalumpang,
baguilumbang, dungon, malugai, bignay, pili, anonang, katmon, balitbitan,
palomaria, bagtikan, alagao, bagarbas, etc? Good thing, these native trees
could still be found in the U.P. Diliman campus. Join the rare treat of
walking around the State U Diliman campus to spot the nice specimens of
the mentioned native tree species. Walk with us, the members of the
Philippine Native Plants Conservation Society, to learn and know more
about these native residents of our rainforests in their last stand in urban
Metro Manila.

When: July 2, 2011, Saturday at 9 am

Where to meet: In front of the UP Oblation (park at the College of


Music or AS Parking Lot)

Who to expect: Blogger and Landscape Arch. Patrick Gozon will lead
the group, together with special guests – Prof. Ed Gomez, Prof Gerry de
Villa, Prof, Jasper Obico, Mr Emil Sotalbo and PNPCSI members.

What to expect: Face to face with Philippine native trees, history of


trees, candid stories and lots of trivia about native trees.

Walking areas and trees to cover (if time permits)

University Ave: Pili, Balitbitan and Ilang ilang


Lagoon : Dungon Late, Bagarbas, Alagao, Salingbobog, Malugai,
Dita and Anonang
Beta way : Baguilumbang and Narra, plus the 100 native seedlings plot
Melchor Hall : Katmon
Malcom Hall : Bitaog
BA : Bagras
Benitez Hall : Dumayaka and Babulong
Gonzales Hall : Dungon, Kamuning and Kalumpit
Laws 101 : Kalingag
Pavilions : Malasambal, Antiaris, Bignay, Lipa, Pandan, Himbabao
MSI : MSI native trees
Gomburza : PNPCSI native tree planting site
What to wear:
Comfortable shirt and pants
Rubber shoes/rubber boots
Hat/cap
Sunscreen/Off lotion
Strongly suggest to use small backpack for stuff

What to bring:
Bottled water
Snacks
Notebook and pen for notes
Camera / Binoculars
Umbrella/rain gear (optional)
Face or hand towel
Extra shirt
Lots of humor!

A minimal donation of P100 will be requested from non-PNPCSI members who


will join this activity. Said donation will fund other PNPCSI activities in the
future.
