LITERARY LOG GUIDELINES

Format of the Literary Log Entry:

1. Title of the Book or Film


2. Author
3. Image of the Book or Poster of the Film
4. A Short Description of the Book or the Film – at least 1 paragraph and must be in your
own words.
(For the manga/webtoon/wattpad link before the description)
5. Answer three guide questions in each entry.
6. Put a #literarylog in the tag area.

Guide Questions: (Choose 3 for each Literary Log Entry)

1. Which character can you connect with the most in your book/film? Why?
2. What have you done that is similar to what the characters experience in your book/film?
3. Based on what the characters say or do, what can you infer about their
attributes/personalities?
4. Describe your feelings about the characters. Copy down a quote from a character and
tell why you think it is meaningful.
5. What motivates the protagonist? How do you know? Use evidence from the book/film
to support your answer.
6. What are the major obstacles that your protagonist faces? Explain why you think these
are most important.
7. Which part of your book/film are you having the most difficulty understanding or
connecting with? Why do you think this is?
8. Predict what will happen in the next few chapters/episodes or remainder of the
book/film. Support your prediction with facts/quotes from the story.
9. Describe the setting. What is its significance to the story? How would the story be
different in a different time or place?
10. Write a letter from one character to another. Be sure to use two quotes from the lines
of the character within the letter.
11. Create a diary entry in the voice of a character. Be sure to use two quotes from the lines
of the character within the letter within your entry.
12. Find a quote that stands out to you and explain why you chose it.
13. How realistic is the plot of your book/film?
14. Find some interesting dialogue. Explain what is happening between the characters
involved.
15. Which character would you like to have as a friend and why?
16. Which part of the story caused the strongest feelings in you? Why?
17. Make a diary entry about the book/film.
18. Make a review about the book/film.
19. Describe your favourite part of the book/film.
20. Make a character profile of your favourite character through art and put a brief
description of that character.
21. Did this book/film make you laugh? Cry? Cringe? Smile? Cheer? Explain.
22. What connections are there between the book/film and your life? Explain.
23. What is the most important event in the book/film? Explain.
24. What are the best parts of the book/film? Why?
25. What are the worst parts of the book? Why?

26. Do any of the characters remind you of friends, family members, or classmates?

28. What would you and your favourite character talk about in a conversation? Begin the
conversation.
29. Write a poem from a character’s viewpoint.
30. Choose a food that represents this book and explain why.
31. Write a letter to the author/writer/director of your book/film.
32. Discuss how your favourite character shows his/her personality through the dialogue in
the story.
33. Create an award for this book. Explain the award and why this book received it.
34. What do you think happened just before your story started?
35. If you could give the main character in your book/film some advice, what would you tell
him or her?
36. Do you like the main character of your book/film? Why or why not?
37. Think of an important event in your book. How would the story have changed if this
event had not happened?
38. If you were in the story, what would your relationship be to the main character?
39. List three facts about this book/film. Then, list three opinions about it.
40. If you could ask the main character of this book/film three questions, what would you
ask?
41. Think about your book. Then finish this sentence in 3 different ways: I wonder….
42. What are some important relationships in your book/film?
43. Think about a supporting character in your book. How would the book be different if
that character did not exist?
44. What is the author’s intent in writing the book/film?
45. What are the interesting vocabulary words that you have learned from your book/film?
46. Which questions would you ask the author if you had the chance to meet him/her?
47. Does the content in the book affect your life? How so?
48. What were your feelings after reading the opening chapter of this book?
49. In what ways are you like any of the characters? Explain.
50. Write a two stanza poem about your feelings with the story.
