Most Essential Learning Competency: Investigate the relationship between the amount
of force applied and the mass of the object to the amount of change in the object’s motion
HOW TO USE THIS MODULE
Before starting the module, I want you to set aside other tasks that will disturb
you while enjoying the lessons. Read the simple instructions below to
successfully enjoy the objectives of this kit. Have fun!
1. Follow carefully all the contents and instructions indicated in every page of
this module.
2. Write on your notebook the concepts about the lessons. Writing enhances learning, that is
important to develop and keep in mind.
3. Perform all the provided activities in the module.
4. Let your facilitator/guardian assess your answers using the answer key card.
5. Analyze conceptually the posttest and apply what you have learned.
6. Enjoy studying!
PARTS OF THE MODULE
 Expectations - These are what you will be able to know after completing the
lessons in the module.
 Pre-test - This will measure your prior knowledge and the concepts to be
mastered throughout the lesson.
 Looking Back to your Lesson - This section will measure what learnings and
skills did you understand from the previous lesson.
 Brief Introduction- This section will give you an overview of the lesson.
 Activities - This is a set of activities you will perform with a partner.
 Remember - This section summarizes the concepts and applications of the
lessons.
 Check your Understanding - It will verify how you learned from the lesson.
 Post-test - This will measure how much you have learned from the entire
module.
LESSON 1: LAW OF INERTIA

EXPECTATIONS

You will investigate the relationship between the amount of force

applied and the mass of the object to the amount of change in the
object’s motion.
Specifically, this module will help you to
 define inertia and relate it to mass
 explain the Law of Inertia and its applications in a real-life situation
 appreciate the importance of wearing seatbelt in the car, airplane, Ferris
wheel or roller coaster when in use.

Let us start your journey in learning more on Law of Inertia. I am sure you are
ready and excited to answer the Pretest. Smile and cheer up!
PRETEST
Directions: Write the letter of the correct answer that best completes the sentence.
1. A private car and a truck are moving at the same velocity. A truck has a tendency to resist change in its motion more than
a car due to its
A. Mass B. Force C. Balance D. Inertia
2. A bowling ball has a mass of 6 kilograms. A tennis ball has a mass of 0.06 kilogram. How much inertia does the bowling
ball have compared to the tennis ball?
A. Bowling ball has greater inertia than a tennis ball
B. Bowling ball has lesser inertia than a tennis ball
C. Both balls have the same inertia
D. Both balls have different inertia
3. According to Newton’s first law of motion, a moving object that is not acted on by an unbalanced force will
A. Remain in motion C. Accelerate in the absence of friction
B. Eventually come to a stop D. Transfer its energy to another object
4. When a moving jeepney suddenly stops, the passengers moved forward. What law illustrates this situation? Law of

A. Acceleration B. Gravitation C. Inertia D. Interaction

5. In 1946, Dr. C. Hunter Shelden made a major contribution to the automotive industry with his idea of seat belts. This
came about from his concerns of the high number of head injuries coming through the emergency room. Which statement
describes the purpose of discovering the car seatbelt?
A. High price selling of seat belts and income from the automotive industry
B. Gaining honor and recognition as one of the discoverers of seatbelt
C. Care for others' lives due to brain damages from car collisions
D. Following the duties and responsibilities as a doctor

Great, you finished answering the questions. You may request your
facilitator to check your work. Congratulations and keep on learning !

Directions: Write the letter of the correct answer that best completes the sentence.

1. When a pair of balanced forces acts on an object, the net force is

A. equal to zero.
B. equal in size to one of the forces.
C. greater in size than one of the forces.
D. greater in size than both forces combined.

2. An orange might roll off your tray when you stop suddenly because of the
A. Orange’s inertia
B. Friction forces acting on the orange
C. Balanced forces acting on the orange
D. Centripetal force acting on the orange

3. Newton’s first law of motion states that an object’s motion will not change unless
A. Object has no inertia
B. Net force acting on it is greater than zero
C. Force continues to be applied to the object
D. Its inertia is stronger than the applied force

4. The car is exceeding the speed limit of 60 km/h, hence, the passenger in the car is also traveling with the same speed. When suddenly stops, without
wearing a seatbelt, what do you think will happen to the passenger? The passenger will
A. Be thrown backward as a result of action-reaction forces.
B. Stay at rest while sitting on the car obeying the Law of Inertia
C. Be thrown forward due to its exceeding speed limit and sudden stop
D. Stop as the car suddenly stops due to applied force on the car's brake

5. Pedestrian lane is usually marked with white paints on the pavement and very common in nearby schools. Why do you think it is related to Law of Inertia?
A. Reduce the installation of stop lights
B. Allow the pedestrian to pass through
C. Replace the number of policemen and traffic enforcers
D. Give signals to all drivers in decreasing the speed of the car
