Design Calculation For overflow pipeing system and Overfllow Lagoon at Unit III

A. General:

A.1 Objective:

This document covers the design of the overflows and drain discharges collection system
from the new constructed four reservoirs, hypo-chlorination building and pump house at
Unit III pumping station

A.2 Design Philosophy

- The overflow lagoon had been relocated at the new extension land area bounded to unit III area,
this location has an average ground level of (+16.80 m) NADD and a new pipe route for the
overflow and drain pipe-work has been agreed.

- As result of the presence of existing pipelines with deep and different level, which obstructing the new
route of the overflow pipe-work and investigation indicates that there is no opportunity to freely
discharge the overflow pipelines into the lagoon

- The design proposes an outlet structure at the lagoon entrance have an invert level below that of the
lagoon, necessitating conveying of discharge into the lagoon. This discharge takes place over a
spillway weir located above the lagoon floor

- The proposed lagoon capacity shall be designed such that top water level will be located below the
spillway weir crest level, so that adequate capacity shall be available for consequent drain discharges
To prevent any chance for backflow from the lagoon to structure

- The residual water volume within the overflow pipe-work shall be pumped from the outfall structure
pit into the lagoon

- Removal of water from the lagoon shall take place via evaporation and seepage

A.3 System Description

- It is proposed that overflows and drain from the new constructed four reservoirs, hypo-chlorination
building and pump house at Unit III pumping station will be routed to an overflow lagoon via a piped
system

C.1.1 Volume Calculations:

Calculation of actual volume shall becarried out based on the following equation:

Volume = 1/3 h ( a b + c d + SQROOT [ a b c d ] )

C.2 Requierd volume of the overflow lagoon including drain volumes according to the contract drawing

C.3 Overflow Peirod

Hence, form (1) and (2) overflow period shall be:

Qovf = 240.00 m 3/min ------(1)
Vact. = 8438.9061 m 3 ------(2)
Therefore, the Overflow period Tov = Vact/Qovf = 35.00 min.
