This study aims to determine how the young entrepreneurs handled their academic

performances and being an entrepreneur at the same time. The effect of being entrepreneur to a

student is making their skills sharpen and enhance. The students are about to make more money

so they can help the finances in their family, this shows how our new technology helps the

entrepreneur to make their sales easier so they no need to have big capital to start their own
business. The researchers used descriptive-qualitative method on this study, has a method of full

of questionnaire and answered by the respondent.

Based on the findings of the researchers, there were 8 young entrepreneur who are Grade

11 at Baliuag University. We find out that being an entrepreneur is a duty and responsibilities.

Being an entrepreneur at a young age are both a good thing and a bad thing, good thing because

at a young age you can support and help your family to provide your needs and a bad thing

because they divide their time to being a student and being an businessman. But our respondents

are very well supervised in terms of managing their time, they balance it by being a student in

morning or in school and an entrepreneur in home. And also based on our study, 6 of our

participants want to continue being an entrepreneur in the future because it is very helpful to

them, while 2 of our respondents said that they do not want to continue selling because they don't

like it and they're not happy with what they do.

CHAPTER I

Introduction

The effectiveness of a young entrepreneurs will have a lot of room for mistakes during

the early stage of developing skills on selling given products, I experience such underestimation

by some of the adult seller’s because of their built image, and it will be harder than you always

think of. A young business minded persons are often seeking and dreaming for success and

eager. Business has a big industry wherein people who starts at the young age could achieve

what they are aiming for, being a young entrepreneur is a trial and error wherein we do not have

any idea if we could make it. The reason of the researchers for conducting this research is the

struggles and sacrifice of a young entrepreneurs, especially on how they manage their time.
There are only few students who are looking for an advance success of a business, they

want to start. Baliuag University is one of the most popular school in Baliwag Bulacan, where

was a few counts of young entrepreneurs, Baliuag University, Grade 11 students is our choice to

conduct this research because of the students who aim higher than anyone else and their studying

habits are visible different from other students.

There are many kinds of business where we could travel while we are about to earn

money. Some of the young entrepreneurs have a good communication skills where they can

interact to the consumers and how they make their sales consistent. Social media is one of the

most powerful key to make their sales larger because they could gave more information about

their product. Business has many concepts wherein businessman and woman are having their

collaboration to each other’s company. Many says that entrepreneur has a broad definition but

some people define entrepreneur. “Entrepreneur is an individual who creates a new business,

bearing most the risking and enjoying of the rewards. The entrepreneur is commonly seen as an

innovator, a source of new ideas, goods, services, and business/or procedures” (Hayes, 2020).

Entrepreneur is like an individual activity for the students who are risking and enjoying of an

activity. There are many types of ownership, sole proprietorship an individual who own a whole

company, partnership has two or more businessman to run a company, limited liability company

wherein resources have limitation. Making an own product that we need in every season we have

is the best because the product will have consistency. A person starting a new company who

takes on the risks associated with starting the enterprise, which may require venture capital to

cover start-up costs (Harvey, 2012).

Young entrepreneurs may start to small businesses. Since poverty is spreading, youth

think of a way to prevent the cases of it. They start on a small businesses that will become bigger
afterwards. Of course, there are some mistakes on handling business but as youth grow older

they will know how to handle it better. Youth entrepreneurs have their inspiring adult

entrepreneurs who have their own image on businesses. This inspires an aspiring business men to

work harder and harder to achieve what they achieve. Young entrepreneurs have benefits like

even you are young you will know how to handle business and as you grow older you will know

how they work on business, you will know how to play the game on their track. Being one of the

youth entrepreneurs I experienced the hardship on my studies but still I manage and think the

right thing to do on my track I am more become wise on handling it.

This research pertains to young individuals to have significant ideas regarding of being a

young entrepreneur. The general objective of this study is to determine the benefits of being an

entrepreneur at a young age. We made this research to encourage and to give the students and the

youth the information they to have the experience, knowledge of being an entrepreneur. Having

the opportunity to determine what a youth wants to be at an early age gives them the significant

ideas of what they want to be as they went through adulthood. The youth should also understand

that they have the freedom as they pursue their own vision. Having their own view of the world.

Entrepreneurship is the only venue where you pursue that vie and see the fruition of their own

vision. Self-employment allows you do your own thing, and explore those areas that you feel

passionate about.

The researchers conduct about young entrepreneur for us to be aware of what kind of

hardship of a young businessman or woman have done. The general purpose of the research is to

have more young entrepreneurs to make their own name that could be the sake of business

industry here in our country, enhance the mindset and improve the academic performances while
improving and playing their role as businessman or woman outside the school, which will result

a success businessman and college graduate at the same time in the future.

Significance of the Study

The results of this study will be a great benefit to the following:

Students. This research will benefit and educate the (Grade 11 General Academic Strand

Senior High School of Baliuag University) because it will give them information about how

being young entrepreneur manage their time for study. This research aims to know about how

young entrepreneurs try to manage their time between businesses and study and why do they

want to have business if they will have their work after they finish studying. This research also

target the students who have more time with their business and why do they want to risks their

time while studying. Specially, the result of this study will benefit the students, particularly of

senior high school. It will give more advice, tips and techniques of how to have a good business

at the young age.

To the parents. This study gives an idea to the parents what their child does to their

business and why their child choose to be an entrepreneur and student at the same time.

To the young entrepreneurs. This study will give them tips for what are the challenges

they face during the stages of figuring out what works well on time management between the

responsibilities of being a student and entrepreneur at the same time.

To the teachers. To give their attention to their students such as advising them as just

what their parents do. In giving the teachers a new scope of knowledge through this research
they will be able to provide new ideas and arrangement in teaching the students to open their

minds about the challenges of the entrepreneur people inside their workplace.

Review of Related Literature

This research study cited books, articles and laws, which are relevant to the present investigation.

It is composed of related literature and studies, both local and foreign, which contain facts and

information on the research problem at hand. It also provides explanations and logical

connections between previous research and present work. In line with this, the study is related to

the following literature and study:

Online Business

Most of the students now are doing online selling for the extra income they could have,

even though they are students they have a good mindset that business is not always doing good.

A student who start any kind of business have more chance to make their own company larger.

Every students are still thinking that being an employee have more advantages. The time is

passing by and more people are now having struggles to get a job after studying for years they

could got nothing.

According to Christopher Sharrocks (1976), An "Online Business" is a business

conducted entirely online. Goods or services are marketed, viewed, purchased, and delivery is

organized thereafter once the order has been placed and paid for. Often the business never
touches or sees the product as they are provided and shipped by the manufacturer or wholesaler.

This is known as “Drop Shipping" and business is commonly conducted as an “Affiliate" and

you do not even need to buy the stock yourself. The wholesaler will post to the customer with a

label on naming you as the supplier. Very easy to set up an online shop selling all kinds of

products using this method. These businesses are very easy to establish and are usually simply

operated from a home computer, tablet or even just a smart phone.

Since the widespread adoption of the internet in the late 1990s, there has been

considerable interest and research on online or e-businesses, and the unique opportunities and

challenges that these offer (Amit and Zott, 2001).

More recently, as the domain of online business has matured and broadened into distinct

sub-domains, there has been a growing and distinct stream of studies that consider online home-

based businesses (Gelderen et al., 2008; Anwar and Daniel, 2014; Daniel et al., 2014).

Such businesses combine the opportunities afforded by both online and home-based

ventures, such as the ability to set a very low affordable loss (Sarasvathy, 2001), which may be

attractive to entrepreneurs that cannot raise external financing or who have limited personal

resources.

The combination of the online medium and the home-base also exacerbate the

challenges manifested in the two types of business, for example, engendering feelings of

isolation and difficulties in establishing trust (Anwar and Daniel, 2014).

Working Student
More students now are about to have their part time job while studying, because the lack

of money they have experience. Being a working student is a hard work and needs more effort at

both sides, here in the Philippines lot of parents do not have capabilities to send their child in a

university schools. Working students are doing very much hard work, showing their skills at

academics and in work at the same level. Working gave them opportunity to finance their own

tuition fees in a good university. Working student are struggling with their schedule between

work and studies there will be a challenges for the duties on work while studying. Working

student needs to be responsible enough to handle their part time job after a whole day of

studying.

According to the research conducted by Watts and Pickering (2000), while working

part-time and studying full-time has a variety of positive outcomes, respondents generally

viewed part-time employment as a necessity to survive in the contemporary higher education

sphere.

(Schill, McCartin, & Meyer, 1985). stated over 30 years ago that working while

studying provides students with quite naturally an indication of the requirements that will be

needed to function effectively in one’s later career.

(Lucas & Lammont, 1998; Curtis & Lucas, 2001) found that students who are working

part-time can easily develop team working, communication, customer care and practical skills.

Students can directly relate the experiences of working part-time to enhance and

improve their academic knowledge, motivation and employment prospects (Curtis & Shani,

2002; Curtis & Williams, 2002).

Buy and Sell

Buy and sell is a type of a business agreement wherein the seller buy the products

cheaper and sell it with high value, they do some changes and upgrades to the product to give it

higher value than it is before. This kind of business is a risky and challenge for the owner

because of do not know when could be their product were solve. Students now are doing it

online, with the products that are in to our new generation, buying a package product to have

their discount and sell it again to the consumers with percentage, they do this kind of job just for

the extra income they could have.

According to Hani & Mohammad (2008), it was found that activating sales factor is the

most effective factor of consumer decision in choosing a communication firm as well as usage,

compared with other factors. The importance of commercial advertising and personal sales is

weakened when we take each one alone. The study is concerned with identifying customer

satisfaction about salespersons concerning presentation, capability to negotiate, knowledge

issues, skills, providing services and external appearance. The study concluded that the

customers are satisfied with salespersons’ performance, which stresses the importance of the role

played by personal sales to achieve customer satisfaction.

Ziad (2010) reveals that salespersons’ credibility, commitment to the promises, patience

in dealing with customers and their appearance have a great impact on customer satisfaction.

Retail merchants in direct sale stores have a fundamental role in gaining customers, providing

them with relevant information that affects their buying decision.

Employee
Most of the business needs employees that are able to get the job done, because employee

performance is important to the overall success of the company.

According to Leonard & Thompson (2019) Business leaders need to understand the key benefits

of an employee performance so that they can develop consistent and objective methods for

evaluating employees. Doing so helps determine strengths, weaknesses and potential managerial

gaps in the business organization. Although performance evaluations are never fun, they help

business leaders determine performance levels for each employee. (Leonard & Thompson, 2019).

Business

Businesses are the means by which many people get their jobs. Businesses create job

opportunities because they need people to produce and sell their goods and services to

consumers. Without businesses, each individual would have to create his or her own way of

making a living. This would be very difficult. Thus, businesses are important because they

provide goods, services, and jobs. Without these things, nations’ economies would be much

smaller and weaker than they are.

According to Stenford (2014) “Business is all those activities involved in providing the goods

and services needed or desired by people”. It means a business activities called that activities

,which provide goods or services required and desired by persons of our society .
Griffin & Ebert (1996) “Business is an organization that provides goods or services in order

toearn provit”. With this definition, business activity through the provision of goods and services

aim to generate profit. A institution is produce profit when “total revenues” in a period is higher

than the “total cost” in the same period. Profit is the main feature of business activity, so that the

profit can be expand. (Griffin and Ebert, 1996).

Theoretical Framework

This study is related to the following theories:

The educational study of Thomas Friedman (2005) “Clearly, it is now possible for more

people than ever to collaborate and compete in real time with more other people on more

different kinds of work from more different corners of the planet and on a more equal footing

than at any previous time in the history of the world—using computers, email, networks,

teleconferencing, and dynamic new software.” Justifying that new aged entreprenuers have more

advantge than entreprenuers way back then because of inovation and technological

advancemnets.

The educational study at New York Times (January.26, 2004, Educational Life Section,

P. 26 "How we learn") says that "Schools don’t teach the same way children learn…Children

seem to learn best when they can explore the world and interact with expert adults.” Justify that

through expirience children learned that can be associated to young entreprenuership where trial

and error will most likely to take place.

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of this qualitative study is to investigate about the effects and challenges of a

student and being a young entrepreneur at the same time that affects academic performance of

Grade 11 students at the Baliuag University.

Scope and Limitation

The study has chosen to know the online practices of young entrepreneurs within the

Baliuag University Senior High school parameters. This study also covers all the strands of the

grade 11 students that involved young entrepreneurs.

This research did not chose to explore in another campus because it is more convenient

for us if we gather information where we are both located. The study will took place starting in t

he month of January until March year 2020.

CHAPTER II

METHOD

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to discover the marketing of young

entrepreneurs. This section discusses the research design, instruments, data gathering procedure,

data analysis and sampling procedures to be used in this research.

Research Design

This study utilized the qualitative research which according to Crossman (2020),

Qualitative research is a type of social science research that collects and works with non-

numerical data and that seeks to interpret meaning from these data that help understand social

life through the study of targeted populations or places. Qualitative research is designed to reveal

the meaning that informs the action or outcomes that are typically measured by quantitative

research. So qualitative researchers investigate meanings, interpretations, symbols, and

the processes and relations of social life.

According to Sutton and Austin (2015), Qualitative research can help researchers to

access the thoughts and feelings of research participants, which can enable development of an

understanding of the meaning that people ascribe to their experiences. Whereas quantitative

research methods can be used to determine how many people undertake particular behaviours,

qualitative methods can help researchers to understand how and why such behaviours take

place.

According to McCombes (2015), Descriptive research can use both qualitative and

quantitative research methods. The research design should be carefully developed to ensure that

the results are valid and reliable. A descriptive research design can use a wide variety

of quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate one or more variables. Unlike in

experimental research, the researcher does not control or manipulate any of the variables, but

only observes and measures them.

Participants and Sampling Procedure

Twelve (12) senior high school students participated and agreed to be interviewed. Out of

the 12 SHS students, 9 are females while 3 are males. About 50% (6) are aged 16 and the

remaining 50% (6) are at the age of 17, which means they are equal and there is no majority with

this range of age.

All 12 participants were given the interview questions ahead of time, and all of them

agreed to an interview. The researchers used Simple Random Sampling in choosing their

respondents. According to Showkat and Parveen (2017) Simple random sampling is a completely

random method of selecting a sample in which each element and each combination of elements

in the population have an equal probability of being selected as a part of the sample.

Research Instrument

The primitive tool used in this research is questionnaire. A semi-constructed type of

interview is released by the researcher. It is composed of four questions and follow up question.

The draft of this questionnaire was drawn based on the researcher’s readings, previous studies,

articles relevant to the study. These questionnaires tested their skills or having experience on
being an online entrepreneur, and also for the student to be mindful and aware of their

performance as an online entrepreneur.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers wrote a permission letter for the interview as their instrument in Baliuag

University Senior High School Department to be sign by the assistant principal, and sent

validation letter to some faculty members in the senior high school to check and finalize our

questions for the interview. The researchers are about to finalize the answers stated on the

interview and summarize it as a whole result.

Data Analysis

After establishing the gathered data to transcribe and data analysis. We systematically

searched and arranged the gathered audio to increase the understanding of our chosen topic to

prove. We draw the information from the respondents and build an evidence to prove what is not

proven or clear. We used recording in the responses of Grade 11 senior high school students in

Baliuag University regarding to our topic which about the “Online Practices of Young

Entrepreneurs in Baliuag University Senior High School.”

On the other hand, the researchers used open coding the personal/ emotion. Open coding

was use for classifying responses that we focus on their challenges and experience of being an

entrepreneur. The researchers asked on what are the struggles and tactics do they have to market

their product and what could they could do if the sales are not good.
CHAPTER III

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

This Descriptive Qualitative Study presents the effectiveness of being a entrepreneur at

young age while having their academic performances. This chapter presents the key findings

from the oral interview done. This study includes Twelve (8) Grade 11 Senior High Students

CHAPTER IV

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter shows the summarized findings, conclusions, and recommendations.

Summary of Findings

In our topic “Online Practices of Young Entrepreneurs in Baliuag University Senior High

School”, we used semi-structured interview to gather data. Based on our findings, we find out

that young entrepreneurs sell products to support their needs in everyday, to provide foods in

their family and to help their parents. Most of the them sell foods because according to them it is

the most in demand than any other products but some of our respondents also said that they sell

different product like clothes, shoes and etcetera because it is more convenient to them if they

sell those. All of them used social media to sell their product for they thought that it is easier to

sell products through social media but they also said that sometimes they sell through personal

talk. They are well supervised in terms of managing their time, they balance it by being a student

in morning or in school and an entrepreneur in home, they said that when arrive in their houses

the first thing they do is their school works then after that they start selling. And based on their

answers, most of them want to continue being an entrepreneur in the future because thats very

helpful to them but also some of them want to stop being an entrepreneur for that they are not

interested being a business man or woman.

Conclusions

Based on the findings of this study, the researchers had formed the following

conclusions:

1. Young entrepreneurs are doing well in their academics. Students are being wise on how do

they market and come up with the product they do sell.

2. Students do not make pressure to themselves to be an entrepreneur and student at the same

time, it is just the only their way how do they will help their family finances.
3. Students are having a good time management that they come up to sell their products after

they do their academic performances.

4. Being an entrepreneur makes the students to sharpen their skills when it comes to business.

Students are learning how to do the business to make it more successful in the future.

5. Students do their business in internet too, to make known of their product and that is why they

have more time on academics because on the help of online selling their product are still

continuing to market and viewed by the consumers.

Recommendations

In the light of findings and conclusions of the study, the following recommendations are

suggested:

1. Prioritize your studies and when you get home you can continue your business, don’t forget

that you have responsibilities that you need to do like your homeworks and other school

activities

2. Use your time wisely, lessen the extracurricular activities then lessen your being an outsider

because you have homeworks and business that you need to take care but if you really need to go

make sure that all your schoolwork are finish then you can have fun.

3. Learn from mistakes. Many entrepreneurs point to mistakes as being their best young

entrepreneur. When you learn from your mistakes, you move closer to success, even though you

initially failed.
4. Know your goals. Having the end in mind every day ensures you’re working toward it. Set

goals and remind yourself of them each day. Manage energy, not time. Your energy limits what

you can do with your time, so manage it wisely.
