Homework 7 (Due: Wednesday, 3/11, 5:00 PM )

NOTE: Please turn in the HW in the HW dropbox on third floor.

Problem 1
Determine the phasor form of the following sinusoids,

1. f (t) = − 3cos 3t − π6

π

2. f (t) = 4sin 4t − 2

Problem 2
Find the cosine function f (t) with the frequency ω = 4 rad/s corresponding to the following phasors,
−jπ
1. x = 2e 3

√ jπ
2. x = −2 − j 3 + 3e 3

Problem 3
Use the phasor method to express the following signals as single cosines,

1. f (t) = 3cos(4t) − 4sin(4t)

π

2. f (t) = 3cos(3t) + 3cos 3t − 2

Problem 4
Plot the phasors for the following signals in the complex plane.

1. v1 (t) = 10sin(ωt − 60◦ )

2. v2 (t) = 10cos(ωt + 60◦ )

3. v3 (t) = 10sin(ωt + 120◦ )

ECE 205 Summer 2014: Homework 4

Due Tuesday77/1 in class:

Problem

1) You are given Circuit 1 with unknown values R1, R2, R3, and C1. You cannot access the nodes
within the dotted box. Your job is to solve for their values using measurements from the
accessible nodes: a, b, and c.

Circuit 1

You are given the following measurement:

A) When a 10 V source is connected across nodes a and b and node c is left unconnected, the
current drawn from node a through node b is 10/3 mA.

B) When a 10 V source is connected across nodes a and c and node b is left unconnected, the
current drawn from node a through node c is 5/2 mA.

C) When a 10 V source is connected across nodes b and c and node a is left unconnected, the
current drawn from node b through node c is 2 mA.

D) A 50 Hz square wave which goes from 0 V to 4 V is connected to nodes a and c. This

configuration is shown below in Circuit 2.

Circuit 2

The plots for the voltage over time of the input square wave (Va) is given in blue, and the plot
for the output waveform (Vb) is given in orange in Figure 1 (an enlarged version is given in
Figure 2). Plots are given on the last page(s) for maximum legibility. Both plots are with respect
to ground being node c. Assume the square wave is generated by an ideal source.

Determine the values of R1, R2, R3, and C1.

Hint 1: determine R1, R2, and R3 using measurements A, B, and C first.

Hint 2: Make sure the R in your R-C time constant is the equivalent R.

2) KnI 2.60
3) Determine the Thevenin and Norton equivalents of the circuit in KnI, 2.65. Use the terminals V0
as drawn and reference I as out from the + terminal.
4) Solve for all currents (i1, i2, ix). Note the current controlled voltage source has a coefficient of
3K (Ohms).
