collides to an approaching motorcycle with a velocity of 4.5 m/s.
Calculate the combined mass of the two motorcycles before
collision.

15.A 400 kg car moves at 6 m/s. It collides with and sticks to another
car with a mass of 425 kg, which was stationary before collision.
What is the velocity of the combined motorcycle after collision?
16.Julia 48 kg student says sorry to Melissa, when she walks fast 2.5

SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEMS
CHECK YOUR ANSWERS:

1. p = mv
= (34.5 kg)(4.8m/s)
= 165.6 kgm/s or 165.6 N.s

2. m= p / v
= 3.5 kg m/s
7.5 m/s
= 0.47 kg

3. v= p/m
= 143 kg m/s
450 kg
= 0.32 m/s

4. p= mv
=(45 kg) (45 m / 9s)
=(45 kg) (5 m/s)
= 9 kg m/s

5. Mio motorcycle
p=mv
= (125 kg)(9 m/s)
= 1125 kg m/s

Sniper motorcycle
p = mv
= (175 kg)(4.5 m/s)
= 787.5 kgm/s

6. Partas Bus Car

m=p/v m=p/v
= 12.2 kg m/s = 12.2 kg m/s
4.8 m/s 5.4 m/s
= 2.54 kg = 2.36 kg

7. a. p = mv
= (325kg )(140 km/h)
= 45,500 kg km/h

B. v = p / m
= 45,500 kg km/h
1754 kg
= 25.94 km/h
8. Δp = mΔv
17.24 kgm/s = m (3.8 - 2.5 m/s)
17. 24 kgm/s = m (1.3 m/s)
m = 17.24 kgm/s
1.3 m/s
m = 13.26 kg

9. Δp = I
Δmv = Ft
F=mv/t
= (3500 kg) (14 m/s)
1.5 s
= 32,666,67 N

10. Δmv = Ft
t = Δmv / F
= (45 kg) (10m/s)
140 N
= 3.21 s

11. m1v1 = m2v2

total initial p = total final p
total initial p = 0
0 = m1v1 + m2v2
- m1v1 = m2v2
-(50 kg) v1 = (60 kg)(3m/s)
-50 kg -50kg

v1 = -3.6 m/s away from the boy

12. m1v1 = m2v2

total initial p = total final p
total initial p = 0
0 = m1v1 + m2v2
- m1v1 = m2v2
-(65kg) v1 = (70 kg)(-4m/s)
- 65 kg -65kg

V1 = -5.19 m/s away from the girl

13. m1v1 = m2v2
total initial p = total final p
total initial p = 0
0 = m1v1 + m2v2
- m1v1 = m2v2
m1(-4.5m/s) = (70kg)(-4m/s)
-4.5 m/s -4.5 m/s

m1 = 62.22 kg

14.
Before After
m1v1 + m2v2 = m1v1 + m2v2
mT (15 m/s + 4.5 m/s) = (145 kg)(5m/s) + (0) (4.5m/s)
mT (9.5 m/s) = 725 kg m/s
9.5 m/s 9.5m/s
mT = 76.32 kg

15.
Before After
m1v1 + m2v2 = m1v1 + m2v2
(400 kg)(6m/s) + (425kg)(0) = (400kg+425kg) vT
(2400 kg m/s) = (825 kg) vT
825 kg 825 kg
vT = 2.91 m/s

16.
Before After
m1v1 + m2v2 = m1v1 + m2v2
(48 kg)(2.5m/s) + (0)(3ms/) = mT (5.5 m/s)
120 kg m/s = mT (5.5 m/s)
5.5 m/s 5.5m/s
mT = 21.82m/s
