Objectives Build rapport and confidence. Be able to know how to use verb ‘be’. Be
able to say countries and use them in easy sentences.

Anticipated problems Problem: It might be difficult to understand the verb ‘be‘ for Russian
and possible solutions learners.
Solution: give the students more encouragement and to practice it using
drilling exercises.

Talk
1 Warm up Teach/ review the alphabet and the sounds through the
(7-10 min) game. (pass a pen for ex.and who will keep silent for 3
sec get out of the game)
Teach Ss how to greet others and introduce themselves.

3 Presentation and Activity 1: Introduce verb ‘be’ (affirmative, negative
Practice and interrogative forms).
(45-60 min) Teaching steps:
1. Draw a table
2. Drill verb ‘be’ with personal pronouns
3. Match the cards with pronouns and forms of the
verb ‘be’
4. Fill in the tables on p.2, ex.2A
5. Complete the conversations, p.2, 3A

Activity 2: Introduce the countries.


Teaching steps:
1. Spread out the handouts with countries, capitals
and their transcriptions.
2. Practice reading and country pronunciation
3. Play a recap game using flag flashcards
4. Match the countries with pictures; p.3, ex 4A
5. Give Ss small cards and they need to make
affirmative(+), negative(-) and interrogative(?)
sentences. (for example: it will be written on a
card- ‘I/from Belarus(+), so the student’s answer
should be –‘I am from Belarus’).
6. Work in pairs : ex.4D, p.3
Student A: ask Where’s…?
Student B: say the country

Activity 3: Writing and word stress


1. Write down new words and underline the stress.
2. Learn the rules of using capital letters
3. Write down exercises 5A,B,C; p.3
