Introduction
 The youth with disability campaign (YwDC) lake zone is a campaign founded by NYEN lake
zone under voluntary service overseas (VSO), Raleigh international, and Restless
development to advocate and empower youth with disability in the country. We hope our
voices will be heard to policy makers, decision makers, political leaders, religious leaders,
influential people, and community members to play fair game to youth with disability.

Background
The status of disability in Tanzania society has been treated as a disease or a curse which has to
treating people with disabilities as sick or unfortunate. This attitude has made it appear that such
people need treatment or help in order to survive.
There are so many restrictions to youth with disability in our communities as follows:
 The existence of infrastructure that does not take into account the circumstances of youth
with disabilities and therefore fails to participate in various social activities such as politics,
sports and access to information.
 Less understanding of laws, and policies which lead to failure fo asserting their right.
 Lack of government’s comprehensive plan to ensure that disability issues are incorporated
into each sector as they are cross-cutting issues.
 Youth with disabilities suffer from poverty and stigma because of the social fabrications
created against them resulting in loss of basic rights such as education and employment.
 Failure to meet the cost of equipment to help them minimize the impact of their disabilities
on various social activities.

Objectives
 The project overall objective is to advocate for youth with disability in the community and
country at large, and increase their participation in election and access of opportunities in the
community.
The Specific Objectives of the Project
 To advocate for putting employment government policies into action for youth with
disabilities
 To promote and advocate for protection of youth with disability before and during election
 To provide atmosphere for the voice of youth with disability to heard in the community and
world at large
 To collaborate with other organizations with similar initiatives, for purposes of networking
and knowledge sharing;
 To sensitize the community on ending stigmatization of youth with disability

Methodology

 The campaign is going to use collaborative approach by working together with other
organizations. In getting deeper the program, several interviews will be made wit key community
informants

How to mobilize and engage people in achieving the planned results?

 The campaign will mobilize people through online campaign to bring all stakeholders
together to make the campaign succeed
 The campaign will coordinate and engage government officials, youth with disability
associations and groups, NGOs, Community based organizations, influential people,
politicians faith based leaders and emerging youth leaders through meetings, consultations
and information-sharing
 All partner organizations will volunteer in mobilizing and engaging other participants in
radio/tv talk shows, and online mobilization.
 The campaign will work closely with local media groups in the community to boost the
campaign of promoting youth with disability empowerment
Actions to completion:
 Launching of NYEN Lake zone youth with disability empowerment online campaign
 Organizing dialogue and sessions regarding stigma education and self confidence
 Producing video clips for advocating youth with disability
 Planning a tv/radio session discussing challenges face youth with disability during election
season, contesting for leadership positions, and accessing jobs and loans
 Sharing stories of youth with disability
Desired outcomes:
The project once implemented successfully, the following results will be expected;
 Awareness about youth with disability will be raised in the region
 Voice of youth with disability will be heard
 Influential leaders, change makers, youth, students, professionals and other people will be
more educated and aware about their individual role to end stigma and protect youth with
disability
 Youth with disability will be empowered and inspired to contest for various leadership
positions during local elections
 Improved self confidence to supported youth with disability
 Inspire other yout and stakeholders take actions
Long term plan to achieve peace
 Increase in the level of confidence of supported youth with disability
 Elimination: of stigmatization of youth with disability
 Increased number of youth with disability in both leadership and private and public offices
Project Sustainability
 This being as a new approach of advocacy project, the NYEN lake zone team with
collaboration of association of people with disability (CHAWATA) is available to continue
managing any subsequent projects for youth with disability advocating.
