Why Thai new generation support the Future Forward Party?

Back in 2014, there was a political issue in Thailand. Thai people were separated into
2 main sides : PDRC and UDD. PDRC was a group of people led by Suthep who didn’t want
Taksin’s system to be in Thailand, while the UDD that was the side of Taksin and Yingluk
Chinawatra. People gathered and had a mob. Both sides had a conflict with each other and
Thailand was so far from peace. Since that year until now, Thailand has had a military
dictatorship by Prayuth Chan-O-Cha and said to keep Thailand in peace. Although Prayuth
became a government and there is no more PDRC or UDD, many Thai people still do not
feel pleased with him. This is because of many reasons but especially economic issues. I
think it is so common to have different strokes for different folks; this includes both citizens
and politicians. For those who don’t like Prayuth, such as the Future Forward Party, they
tried to beat him in the election with their policies. Future Forward Party or FFP is a new
political party led by Thanathorn. This new party is in complete contrast with Prayuth. He
promoted his party by promising to bring back democracy to Thailand against dictatorship. In
order to win the election, he should have supporters beside him. He has his target group
which is teenagers who want to see the change and improvement in society. He also has a
policy for teenagers between ages 18 to 22 to give them 2,200 baht monthly for 5 years. At
the age 18, teenagers started to get involved in elections and he saw this as a chance to
have them selected for FFP more. Both teenagers and many adults see that it’s time to
change our society and having a new party with a new generation is a good start. They see
that having a new generation of politicians will bring some new point of views that is up to
date which is likely to be better than the same old party. Most people are so bored with
cliche politicians and parties that when they got selected but did nothing as they have said. I
also saw one thing that makes FFP very popular among teenagers is the internet. FFP is so
influential in social media. This is the cause of having a new generation of politicians who
access social media more than old politicians do. He also has supporters, those are
teenagers who give 100% trust in the party and usually on social media. The Internet these
days is very influential; FFP can deal with accessing the internet is like half done. People
who support this party will keep posting how good Thanathorn is, why it needs to be FFP,
and many other things that can change people’s mind after seeing a lot of stuff about him.
Here is an example of how social media changed political movement; PDRC used to be
popular back then, but after having new government and political movements, PDRC
became “Sa-lim”. Sa-lim is what people on social media call PDRC in an abusive way.
Moreover, the word Sa-lim has not been used just for political topics, but people also use it
anytime especially in a conflict comment. From PDRC became Sa-lim and Sa-lim became
slang word. We can see that the internet is very influential and it is not strange for
Thanathorn to be popular among those who use the internet which are teenagers mostly.
Anyway, how much the party was supported at that time, but now the Future Forward Party
was disbanded for 10 years. We still hope that Thailand will have some good political parties
to improve the society.
