Executive Summary
This industrial tour report is prepared on production system of Midas Safety Bangladesh Ltd.

This report is prepared on the basis of primary and secondary knowledge. During the industrial

tour we have visited production department of Midas Safety Bangladesh Ltd .On the basis of

Supply Planning the Raw Materials and Packaging materials are being procured by

Procurement from National and International Suppliers where Inbound Logistics releases the

imported materials from port following customs formalities. This is then used for Production

and later Primary Sales (invoicing) is done by Customer Service and Distribution. The first

part of the report gave a short introduction on Midas Safety Bangladesh and history. The

second part is about business vision and mission and product portfolios. The third part is about

findings from the study of production system of MIDAS Safety Bangladesh Ltd. Finally at

last part brief Recommendations prepared from my brief knowledge on Midas Safety

Bangladesh production system. MIDAS Safety Bangladesh has their efficient production

system of various products they produce for protection. Although the production system if

efficient it has some problems like rejection of produced products, lead time, longer length of

time required to produce a single unit. The whole production process is too long but the

process produces quality products. Considering all these issues, the production system of

MIDAS Safety Bangladesh is quite efficient.

3.1.2 Nitral Plant

Main functions start from here. Linels are loaded to former from nitral plant. In linel,
methanol dip is made to enhance quality. Then latex is done. Natural latex are of many
colors. In blower, latex are dried with air. The time between woven and blower is jailing
time which is about 13 minutes on an average. Then comes controller system from where
machine is controlled. There are 11 woven where 9 are active.

After this, overlock section comes. Overlock is done according to the requirement of the
customers. Then the products are packed with checking quality.

Mid-level amount of defects, and C= Excess amount of defects.

3.3 Manufacturing Experience

Midas Safety has more than 35 years of experience as a global manufacturer of Personal
Protection Equipment. From a single manufacturing unit in its early days, Midas Safety has
vertically integrated to 15 facilities across 10 countries, covering all stages of the product
development cycle: procurement of raw materials, spinning and plying their own yarn, and

19
manufacturing the end products.

Midas Associates have factories located throughout Asia, in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and
Bangladesh. All manufacturing units have installed 9001 Quality Assurance Systems, which
are regularly audited by independent external auditors.

Midas Safety is known by its customers as the no. 1 global private-label safety glove
manufacturer in the world. For over 30 years, hundreds of globally renowned PPE safety
brands have been relying on Midas Safety as a credible OEM of industrial safety gloves. Their
vast range of products makes us the only super market of gloves, committed to offering
consistent quality and innovative solutions to their customers across 50 countries. Their
customers know that their business can progress and thrive safely when they work with us.
This is demonstrated every day through exceptional customer service, high quality product
manufacturing and industry knowledge.

3.4 MANUFACTURING FACILITIES

From a single manufacturing unit in its early days, Midas Safety has, over time, vertically
integrated to 15 facilities across 10 countries, covering all stages of the product development
cycle; from procurement of raw materials, and spinning and plying their own yarn, till the
manufacturing of the end product. Midas Associates have factories located throughout Asia,
in Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. All manufacturing units have installed 9001 Quality
Assurance Systems, which are regularly audited by independent external auditors.

3.5 SPINNING

Their associates’ state-of-the-art spinning mill is located in the heart of Pakistan’s rich cotton
belt. The mill is able to transform bales of raw cotton into fine yarns. These yarns are then
knitted or woven into fabrics for liners. These yarns are also used in their machine-knitting
factories to produce seamless knitted gloves and shells for coated glove manufacturing. Great
care is taken in the selection of the raw materials used in all parts of the process. Only the

20
most reputable suppliers are trusted to partner with them in their quest to meet and exceed the
high quality standards of their many certifications.

3.6 FABRIC PROCESSING

Fabric refers to any material made through weaving, knitting, spreading, crocheting or
bonding yarns. The knitting process produces fabrics by interloping yarns. The weaving
process produces fabric by interlacing yarns. Bleaching and fire-resistant treatment can be
performed when requested by the customer. Midas products combine (or use stand-alone) a
wide variety of textile fibers and yarns, including cotton yarns, textured polyester and nylon,
more exotic high-performance yarns like glass, steel, and aramid (e.g., Kevlar® and Nomex®)
and Ultra-High Molecular weight Polyethylene (e.g., Dyneema®). Midas Associates include
several certified Kevlar® licensees, able to spin Kevlar® yarn, in several counts, for Midas’
own use!

3.7 PLYING

Covering - The covering process combines two or more yarns. This composite yarn is made
of a central part called the core and an outside part referred to as the covering yarn or just
cover. Very often, the core is a spandex, steel or glass fiber, improving the performance of the
wrapped yarn. There are different types of yarn covering:

 Conventional covering - To produce single or double-covered yarns (one or two covers

over a core yarn)
 Air covering - To produce yarns that are simply intermingled

Advantage of in-house covering - A balanced yarn can be made to enhance various properties:
resistance to abrasion, cut, tear, puncture, etc. In-house covering allows us the freedom to
select yarns that optimize both performance and the cost of the final product, as per their
custom order.

21
3.8 LATEX STORAGE

Natural rubber is one of Sri Lanka’s most abundant rest their cues. Their associates purchase
raw latex from local plantations and process it for glove production. The latex is then delivered
to their disposable and supported glove factories that surround Colombo, Sri Lanka.

3.9 DIPPING

In the final stages of manufacturing, the glove liners are placed on hand-shaped glove molds,
then dipped or flow coated with various polymers such as natural rubber, neoprene, nitrile,
PVC, silicone, and PU (polyurethane). The procedure of dipping provides improved
protective properties to the resulting gloves, such as increased degrees of grip, durability,
flexibility, splash protection and chemical protection. In addition to the mainstays, Midas
offers several unique proprietary coatings

Chapter 04

25
Problems in production system of MIDAS Safety Bangladesh

MIDAS Safety Bangladesh although one of the most prominent companies in protection it
has some internal as well as external problem in production system and in relation to
production. These problems are;

 Lack of infrastructural development of the organization.

 Poor investment in research and development to make production system more
efficient.
 0.1% rejection of produced products.
 Long time in the process of production like 23 minutes per unit.
 Have no own power supply system.
 Have no local supply of raw material.
 Lead time
 Shortage of raw material availability
 Import of Liner in the production of hand gloves.

Recommendations

 Participation in fairs to promote products.

 Continuous quality improvement concept may be applied for the improvement of the
quality of the product.
 Investment in research and development has to extend to initiate a new idea.
 MIDAS SAFETY BANGLADESH may try to produce raw material in production
country.
 MIDAS SAFETY BANGLADESH may introduce the updated technology in the
production to increase productivity.
 MIDAS SAFETY BANGLADESH may try its best to minimize the lead time of the
shipment of hand gloves.

26
Conclusion

By Observing the above discussion we can conclude that the company has been maintaining
excellent production system since its beginning with only a few problems. Apart from the
startup, this matter of proud for company that it never incurred a loss since 2010. The products
of the company have wide market demand all over the world. The company earns a lot of
foreign exchange which plays an important role in our national economy. Industrial Hand
Protection Ltd is already role model for export oriented industry sector within few years.
Because of its quality product, uniqueness of their product, export volume and so on. Some
of the strong points of Midas safety are: Innovation, varieties of product, best quality ensured
at reasonable price, skilled personnel. One of the main problem is that MIDAS SAFETY
BANGLADESH uses automated machineries which hamper targeted production in case of
electricity disruption. It imports all raw materials but it sometime faces problems due to time
limitation. If MIDAS SAFETY BANGLADESH can overcome its drawbacks it will increase
a large extent the volume of profit. The production capacity of MIDAS SAFETY
BANGLADESH is limited because of their limited area. So this need to be considered by
concerned authority.
