CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION, ANALYSIS, AND INTERPRETATION OF DATA

This chapter presents the analysis and interpretation of the gathered data.

The obtained data were statistically analyzed and the results were presented in tabular

form to have a clearer and better understanding of each.

Table 1 shows the frequency and percentage distribution of the grade level of the

respondents.

The data reveals that there are more Grade 10 respondents than the other grade level.

The Grade 10 ranks at one with the percentage of 38%. While the Grade 9 ranks as the second

with the percentage of 26%, then followed by the Grade 8 that ranks at third with the

percentage of 20%. Then lastly, the Grade 7 that ranks at fifth with the percentage of 16%.

The data shows that the Grade 10 students eats street foods more than the other grade

levels.

The Table 2 presents the frequency and percentage distribution of the age of the

respondents.

The data shows that 68% of the respondents of the junior high school students are aged

14-16 with ranks first, then it is followed by the students aged 11-13 with the percentage of 24

which ranks as the second, then followed by the percentage of 8 of the respondents whose age

are 17 and above.

The data summarized that most of the students are on their proper year according to

their grade level.

Table 3 shows the frequency and percentage distribution for the health background of

the respondents.

Based on the data, the number of respondents who has Food Allergies are 24 with the

percentage of 52 that ranks as one. Then, it is followed by UTI with the percentage of 42 that

ranks as second, then Diarrhea that ranks at third with the percentage of 36, followed by the

percentage of 6 of Food Poisoning and Others which ranks at 4. With Obesity that follows with

the percentage of 4 that ranks at 5, and Hepatitis that ranks at 6 with its percentage of 2. Lastly,

with the percentage of 0, Typhoid Fever and Cholera which ranks at 7.

Summarizing the data, the respondents has or had Food Allergies more than the other

diseases. It is clear that the respondents did not have Typhoid Fever and Cholera which are the

diseases that you can obtain in eating street foods. Meanwhile, the diseases Diarrhea, Hepatitis

and Food Poisoning, that are also common diseases in street foods, also gave contribution in

the respondent’s health background. UTI and Obesity, the possible diseases that you can get

from street foods, also gave contribution and also are dominant in the ranking especially UTI.

Table 4 shows the frequency and percentage distribution of the respondents’ answer on

the question “How often do you eat street foods?”.

Based on the table, the respondents eat street foods as often as twice a week that ranks at

1 with the percentage of 42. It is followed by the answer once every 2-3 weeks that ranks at 2

with the percentage of 24 followed by the answer every day with the frequency of 9 which

ranks at 3 and the answer once a week that ranked as fourth with the frequency of 8 and the

percentage of 16. Lastly, the answer others that ranked as 5 with the percentage of 0.

In conclusion, the majority of respondents eat street foods twice a week than the other

respondents.

Table 5 presents the frequency and percentage distribution of the respondents’ answer on

the question “Do you feel energetic whenever you eat street foods?”.

The data shows the respondents who answered yes are more dominant than the

respondents who answered no with the percentage of 58% that ranks as 1, while the students

who answered no ranks at 2 with the percentage of 42%.

Based on the table, the data proves that the majority of the respondents feels energetic

whenever they eat street foods and the other respondents doesn’t feel energetic whenever they

eat street foods. In this table, it proves the foreign literature that we studied. It proves that street

foods really do gives energy to the ones who eat it.

Table 6 shows the frequency and percentage distribution of the respondents’ thoughts

on the question “Do you agree with street food vending outside the school?”.

The data reveals that 90% of the respondents answered Yes that ranks at 1, followed by

the answer no that ranks at 2.

In conclusion, the majority of respondents agrees with street food vending outside the

school. This proves that the students disregard the other possible outcome of street food

vending outside the school and agrees on the vending of such foods.

Table 7 shows the frequency and percentage distribution of the respondents’ answer on

the question “Do you get or feel sick whenever you eat street foods?”.

Based on the table, the first to rank is the answer No with its percentage of 86 and the

frequency of 7, while the second to rank is the answer Yes with the percentage of 14 and the

frequency of 43. It sums up that the majority of respondents doesn’t get or feel sick after eating

street foods. While on the other hand, there’s still a number of respondents who get or feel sick

after eating such foods.

Table 8 shows the frequency and percentage distribution of the respondents’ answer on

the question “How many street foods do you usually eat?”.

As per the table, it shows that the answer 3-4 is the dominant one with the percentage of

26 which ranks at one, followed by the answer 9 and above with the percentage of 24 that

ranks at two then 1-2 with the percentage of 20 which ranks at three and the percentage 16 of

the answer 7-8 that ranks at four and lastly, the answer 5-6 with the percentage of 14 which

ranks at five.

Based on the data, the majority of the respondents usually eats 3-4 street foods and some

also eats 9 or more street foods.

Table 9 shows the frequency and percentage distribution of the respondents’ answer on

the question “Where do you usually eat street foods?”.

The table shows that 48% of the respondents answered outside the school that ranks at

one following the percentage of 28 of the answer outside the house that ranks as second and

then the answer at the park that ranks at three with the percentage of 12 followed by the

percentage of 8 of the answer outside the mall that ranks as fourth and lastly, the answer others

that ranks at five with the percentage of 4.

In conclusion, the respondents rather, students eat street foods mostly outside their

school. They prefer eating outside the school more than the other given places. The majority

answered outside the school and the other answered that they usually eat outside their house.

Some respondents usually eat at other places. Some prefers to eat outside the mall or at the

park.

the question “What kind of street foods do you usually eat?”.

The data shows that the percentage 96 of the answer Kwek-Kwek ranked first. It is

followed by the answer Fishball with the percentage of 62 which ranked second and then the

percentage of 58 of the answer Kikiam that ranked third, following the answer Chicken skin

that ranked fourth with the percentage of 52, followed by the answers Squidball and Balut with

the percentage of 26 that ranked as fifth and then the answer Chickenball that ranked as sixth

with its percentage of 22 followed by the percentage of 8 of the answer One Day Old which

ranked as seventh and lastly, the others that ranked as eighth with its percentage of 6.

In conclusion, the street food kwek-kwek is the sought-after food overall. Kwek-Kwek is

eaten by the junior high school students and is the one that they mostly prefer than other street

foods. To summarize, Kwek-kwek, Fishball, Chicken Skin and Kikiam are the street foods that

are popular or usually eaten by the junior high school respondents and the street food One Day

Old is the least eaten one.

the question “why do you eat street foods?”.

The table reveals that the first ranked is the answer Delicious with its percentage 28 and

is followed by the answer Cheap that ranks at second, followed by the percentage of 16 of the

answer Lack of budget which ranks at third and then the answers Hungriness and Cravings

which ranks at four with the percentage of 16 followed by the percentage of 8 of the answer

Close to my area which ranked at fifth. Lastly, the answer Others that ranked as sixth with its

percentage of 2.

To summarize, the majority of the respondents eat street foods because they think

street foods are delicious. Some considers street foods as cheap and they lack of budget that’s

why they eat it. Some eats street food because they’re just hungry and they crave it. The

respondents also consider street foods just because it is close to their area.

The table reveals that the most picked choice is Whenever I like it with the percentage of

62 which ranked one, followed by the answer Influence of friends that ranked as second with

the percentage of 20 and then followed by the percentage of 12 of the answer Whenever I’m

hungry that ranked as third, following the percentage of 4 of the answer Lack of budget which

ranked as fourth and lastly, the answer Others that ranked as fifth with its percentage of 2.

The data shows that the respondents mostly eat street foods whenever they like it as it is

the most picked choice. Followed by the influence of their friends and their hungriness and

lack of budget.

Table 13 shows the frequency and percentage distribution of the respondents’ answer on

the question “Are you aware of the effects of street foods on your health?”.

As per the table, the answer No ranked at one. 72% of the respondents aren’t aware of

the effects that street foods might cause to them. While on the other hand, 28% of the

respondents are aware of the effects that street foods might cause to them. The answer Yes

ranked at 2.

Table 15 shows the frequency and percentage distribution if the respondents’ answer on

the question “What is the best suggestion that you can recommend to address this problem?”.

The first to rank is the answer To teach the vendors the right handling of foods with its

percentage of 30 followed by the answer To learn about the effects of street foods on your

health with its percentage of 24 that ranked as second, then the percentage of 20 of the answer

To lessen the consumption of street foods that ranked as third following the answer To be

picky on the places to eat street foods that has the percentage of 18 that ranked as fourth and

then the answer that ranked as fifth that has the percentage of 8 which is the answer To stop

eating street foods and lastly, the answer Others that ranked as sixth with the percentage of 0.

To summarize, most of the respondents thinks that the problem regarding street foods

can be done by teaching the vendors the right handling of such foods. One of the dominant

answers are also learning the effects of street foods to their health. The other respondents think

that the problem will be solved if the consumers know the effects of street foods to their health.
