ACTION PLAN ON THE POSTED POSITION OF DEAN OF INISTITUTE OF


TECHNOLOGOY

1. Introduction

Oda Bultum Institute of Technology at Oda Bultum University is the pioneer institute of
technology offering higher education in the field of engineering and technologies since it
launched. It is immense academic unit among others academic units of Oda Bultum University in
terms of students mass and academic staffs

This comprehensive academic Action Plan is developed based on the feedback and observation

results gathered from Oda Bultum University Institute of Technology community point of view,

student’s perception and status standards of the institute since it launched to now. Therefore, if I

will be nominated as Dean of Institute of Technology, I will be committed to do the following

activities of this action plan:

The three strategic pillar action that will be accomplished are:

1. Teaching-learning
2. Research and
3. Community service

1. Teaching-learning

The major strategic issues of the institute in regard to teaching learning will be:

A. Staff development and capacity building

Regarding the staff development and capacity building, the following takes will be at Institute
level
 Demand for recruiting new staff will be identified early at each departments
 Appointment and promotion for staffs from study and on duty will be carryout as per
rules and regulations of our University;
 Creating and sustaining partnership and collaboration with national and international
organizations, to train the staffs
 conducting experience sharing programmers and attending national and international
workshops and conference

 Develop short and long term training packages
 Staff members will be given opportunities to participate in several local and national
training courses, conferences and workshops as an effort to capacity building.

B. Students Engaging Competence

In order to produce qualified, disciplined and competent graduates of engineering and


technology from the institute, the following activities will be accomplished with the
collaboration of departments

 Facilitate and direct each department to assign instructors based on their professionality
 Direct and co-ordinate teaching and learning aids
 Follow-up teaching process such; class schedule, course plan, continues assessment
 Direct and co-ordinate to strengthen the workshops, libraries laboratories, practical and
tutorial activities
 Direct and co-ordinate to assign advisors for each student for shaping their attitudes to be
disciplined.
 Direct and co-ordinate to form Exam approval, Grade approval, course audit and exam
bank committees at department and institute level.
 Direct and co-ordinate in assuring availability of teaching materials such as drawing
instruments, drawing table, black board etc.
 Direct and co-ordinate to strengthen the curriculum revision, Harmonizing and
developing newly launched programs
 Enhancing participatory teaching-learning methods at all academic programs

C. AC and DC Appointment

One of the most challenging aspects of maintaining a neat and organized learning and teaching
environment that is conducive to learning is getting the discussion of stock holders that is
empowering the academic commission and department council. The following activities will be
carried out:

 Direct and co-ordinate empowerment of each department council and fully authorized
 Follow-up all DC decisions carried out at each department and present a report to the
AC and concerned Vice President;
 Deciding issues beyond departments at Ac level
 Direct and co-ordinate activity plan and budget plan of the Institute and academic units
 Administer and oversee the proper utilization of the material and human resources of the
Institute at Ac level
 Direct, co-ordinate and coach issuing of rules and procedures for the proper
administration of the Institute in line with the overall policies and regulations of our
University;
 Ensure that the policies, rules and regulations of our University are readily available for
the staff and students of the Institute
 Facilitate recruitment of fulltime or part-time and guest professionals that can contribute
to the community service, research and teaching needs of the Institute;
 Delegate duties and power to other coordinators or heads as deemed necessary;
 Prepare quarterly and annual reports and compile them in a form of booklets as well as
upload them on the University’s website (when it becomes ready);
 Submit timely reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs on the activities of the
Institute
 Carryout any other relevant tasks assigned by the Higher Officials of the
University.
 Timely facilitate all the required logistic for each department clustered under this
college
 Closely work with all departments, registrar office, vice president for Academic
affairs and Vice president for Research and community Engagement, and other
colleges so as to enhance both vertical and horizontal relations
 Facilitate the implementation of government policies cooperative learning, Module
Team, BPR and Kaizen in each department under this college.
 Prepare guideline and manual for field trip for concerned departments of the college

2. Research
Conducting problem solving research is an integral components of higher institutions core
processes. Thus the institute will be fully participated on research work through the following
strategic actions:
 Increase staff interest and engagement in research through motivation and experiencing
 Facilitating good practice in organizing annual research conference and monthly seminars
 Facilitate the establishment of research group within in the Institute.
 Identify researchable thematic area in relation to the each department in the Institute.
 Plan and implement workshop and symposium at Institute level with Research and
Community service Vice President Office.
 Initiate and conduct participatory and problem solving research on those identified
thematic area(s) by all department staff in the Institute.
 Develop guideline and incentive package that foster interdisciplinary research

3. Community Service Engagement


 Identify model community service areas and provide problem solving community
services with active engagement of staff
 Create awareness on community services through workshops and public lecture,
panel and discussion at Institute level.
 Support and strengthen the involvement of volunteer clubs our students in community
engagement
 Encourage staff and students to provide trainings and other services to the community
that improve their living standards.
 Strengthening the consultancy and training services of the university to the
surrounding community.
