• Basic computer, Windows and Office (MS Word, etc.)
• Basic Internet skills

Basic Online Course Design Structure
1. Welcome: Welcome your learners to the course
2. Instructions: Explain how they will navigate the course, which buttons
they need to click, etc.
3. Introduction: Tell learners why they are taking the course, and what
benefits they’ll receive by completing it
4. Objectives: Outline the specific course objectives, so learners have a
good sense of what’s ahead.
5. Content: Build your main course content here. Depending on the length,
you might chunk it into lessons, each with its own intro, content,
assessment, and summary.
6. Assessment: Give learners an assessment to see whether they’ve
actually learned the material.
7. Additional Resources (optional): Offer additional content or resources
that reinforce the course material from other website, online articles or
E-books

Switching a Course to Edit Mode

move things around by

• To add an activity or resource to
your moodle course, do the
following:
1. Turn editing on from the Action
menu
2. Click the Add an Activity or
Resource link in the section you
want to add your activity/resource
Note: Clicking on an activity or
resource display a summary
3. Select your activity/resource from
information about that the displayed box and click Add
activity/resource

• Add a Book resource:
1. Turn editing on from the Action
menu
2. Click the Add an Activity or
Resource link in the section you
want to add your
activity/resource
3. Select Book and click Add
4. Type the name of the resource
and leave all the default settings
in place. Next, scroll down and

Moodle Course Activities:
Adding a Forum
• Add a Forum Activity:
1. Turn editing on from the Action
menu
2. Click the Add an Activity or
Resource link in the section you
want to add your activity/resource
3. Select Forum and click Add
4. Type the name of the forum and set
the forum type. Leave all the
default settings in place. Next, scroll
down and click Save and return to
course at the bottom of the

Adding a Page to your course
• Add a Page resource:
1. Turn editing on from the Action
menu
2. Click the Add an Activity or
Resource link in the section you
want to add your
activity/resource
3. Select Page and click Add
4. Type the name of the resource
and leave all the default settings
in place. Next, scroll down and
click Save and return to course

Moodle Course Resource:
Uploading a File (word, power point & PDF)
There are two ways to add a file to
your Moodle course:
1. Drag the file from your computer
and drop it in a section block of
your course. This is possible if
your browser supports drag &
drop.
2. Alternatively, you can add a file
through the file resource
3. Type the file name and upload
the file then click Save and
return to course

Moodle Course Activity:
Adding an Assignment
1. Turn editing on and click Add
an activity or resource
2. Click Assignment
3. Type the assignment name
and set the due date
4. Click Save and return to

1. Turn editing on and click Add
an activity or resource
2. Click Quiz
3. Type the quiz name and set
any necessary options.
4. Click Save and return to
