Teenage Pregnancy

One of the social issues that our country is experiencing right now is Teenage
Pregnancy. According to the Population Commission (PopCom), 24 babies are born
to teenage mothers every hour and almost 200,000 Filipino teens
get pregnant annually, most of them from ages 15 to 19. Teenage pregnancy can be
caused by lack of information about sexual and reproductive health and rights,
Inadequate access to services tailored to young people, family and community
social pressure, sexual violence, family problems and early forced marriage. The
impact of teenage pregnancy affects the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual
well-being of the adolescents.
This social issue can be related to the topic Historical Action by Ramon C.
Reyes in which he said that historical action is the human being as a conscious cross-
point in the various dimension of his reality. This is for the reason that, one of the
aspect why teenagers is socially inclined to this problem is because of social pressure
and family problems. Reyes explained that a person is an interpersonal cross-point. In
which he also elaborated that each one of us comes from a family and develops a
certain personality. This personality indicates that we carry a particular trait which we
acquired from our parents and we creatively do things in honor to our family. This
topic further explained that our Family is our strongest support system and if one is
misguided then there is a possible chance that his or her future can be jeopardize.

having all these new problems to deal with without a fully developed maturity the mother can also
suffer from emotional and mental stagnation. Her peers may reject her as society deems teenage
pregnancy unacceptable. She may feel humiliated and ashamed after her pregnancy begins to
show, so then she refuses to finish school and as a result she lessens her ability to effectively raise
her child. When teenage mother are pregnant, they are the least likely of all maternal age groups to
get early and regular prenatal care. There are many teen mothers who receive late or no prenatal
care at all. After giving birth, the majority of girls drop out of school in order to care of the baby. If
there is no one else to share the endless amount of work, she must assume full responsibility. She
may be forced to pursue employment with a minimal of earning potential due to her lack of
education. This scenario tends to breed an unstable and financially insecure parent, and the child
may also suffer from neglect by the constantly working mother. The teenage social experience is a
fundamental stage of development. How a teenager develops socially dictates how effective she
will be as an adult. Through interaction with peers, a teenager learns about herself. This is an
important period of time to construct personal identity. If this period is cut short, she will not be
competent to meet the challenges that come with raising a child. Teenagers also tend have poor
eating
