Sentence
Sentence = subject + main verb

Subject
1- Noun = Sami – girl – car – love
2- Pronoun = he – she – it – we – they – you – I

Verb
come – go – read - play
Examples:-
a- Sami slept.
b- We study.
c- The girl played.

Helping Verbs

1- Verb to be :- is, are, am, was, were, be, been, being

2- Verb to have :- have, has, had


3- Verb to do :- does, do, did

4- Modals :-
Can - could – will –would – shall –should – may - might

Verb to be

There are three cases to use verb to be:-

1- Continuous tenses:-

Verb to be + main verb +ing

Ex:- We are reading.

2- Passive:-

Verb to be + main verbV3 (past participle)

Ex:- The car was stolen.

The letter is written by Sami.


3- Past or Present (Verb to be is the main verb )

Verb to be + Adj / Noun

Ex:- Sami is good.

We were children.

Verb to have

There are two cases to use verb to have:-

1- Perfect tenses :-

Verb to have + main verbV3 ( past participle)

Ex:- I have bought a new car.

She has drunk the milk.

2- Past or Present (Verb to have is the main verb )

Verb to have + Adj / Noun

Ex:- I have a car.

He has a book.
Verb to do

There are two cases to use verb to do:-

1- Simple present :-

(does – do ) + main verbV1

Ex:- What does your mother usually cook?

What time do you sleep?

2- Simple past:-

Did + Vmain verbV1

Ex:- When did Sami go?

3- Past or Present (Verb to do is the main verb )

Verb to do + Adv / Noun

Ex:- I always do well.

He did something bad.


Modals

Modals are always followed by main verbV1.

will – would – can – could – shall – should – may – might


a- He will go tomorrow.
b- We shall sleep.
c- Can you help me?
