Interjections

 These are words or group of words that express emotion.


Interjections are used to express emotions like:
Joy: Hurray! We won!
Relief: Whew, that was really close.
Surprise: Oh, you’re beautiful!
Pain: Ouch, you’re hurting me.
 They are followed by either an exclamation point or a comma.
 They do not have a grammatical place in the sentence.
 They should not be used in academic writing.

Examples of Interjections
aha, ahem, indeed, boy, opps, psst, well, ah, fine, aww, hush, hmm, hey, no
way, meh, nah, whoops, yummy, yosh, yeah, yup, duh, boo, alright, argh,
blah, eh, hurray, yahoo, whoa, wow, bravo, great, good, bingo, whew, phew,
yuck, eww, ugh, gosh, aha, oh, yikes, gee, uh, kyaa, waa, huh, alas, ouch

Sentences with interjections


1. Ahh, now I see what you mean.
2. Oh, that was a wonderful movie!
3. Hey, don’t give up.
4. Alas, I should have studied harder.
5. You were, whoa, incredible out there!
