Symptom
The following symptoms may occur when the Stapler Unit shifts to the rear Staple Position:
a. Positional displacement of Staple on the rear side or faulty stapling.
b. Noise at the shift of the Staple Assembly.
c. E57A-8001 error (fault in Paper Edge Area Sensor or Paper Edge Stopper Shift Motor).
Cause
In Staple Mode, the Staple Assembly Cable [1] connected to the Stapler is supposed to shift in a state like [A] when
the Stapler Unit shifts to the Staple Position on the rear side. However, the Staple Assembly Cable may shift in a
state like [B], touching the Stapler Cable Holder [2] and thus interfering the edge [3] of the Stapler Cable Holder in
some cases. Repeating this interference may make the staple incapable of shifting to the specified position on the rear
side, with the meshed tube of the Staple Assembly Cable stuck with the edge of the Stapler Cable Holder in the worst
case.

Shifting of the Stapler Unit with its meshed Tube of the Staple Assembly Cable stuck with the edge of the Stapler
Cable Holder puts a stress onto the area of the Staple Assembly Cable that contacts with the Stapler Cable Holder
[4]. Repetition of this stress results in damage of the Staple Assembly Cable (FM2-5734) as shown in [5].

<Factory measure>
Attach a Sheet (FC6-6242) onto the Stapler Cable Holder so the meshed Tube of the Staple Assembly Cable is not
stuck with the Stapler Cable Holder.

After that, in order to secure the effect, change the shape of the Sheet (from FC6-6242-000 to FC6-6242-010).

Service work:
At visit to the customer's site for servicing, attach the new type sheet (FC6-6242-010) onto the Finisher- and Saddle
Finisher-Stapler Cable Holder (FB5-9044) of which factory-processed machine number is earlier than described
below.

Procedure to attach the new type sheet:
1) Remove the Staple Unit by following "Removing the Stapler" in the manual for easier attachment of the Sheet.
2) Wipe the surface of the Stapler Cable Holder (lower) with the Lint-free Paper moistened with alcohol.
3) As indicated in the Photo "P-5B", attach the Sheet (FC6-6242-010) onto the Stapler Cable Holder (lower), (FB5-
9044).
4) Mount the Staple Unit using the steps to remove it but in reverse.

Procedure to attach the old type sheet:

1) Wipe the surface of the Stapler Cable Holder with the Lint-free Paper moistened with alcohol.
2) Push-on the Sheet onto the Corner [7] of the Stapler Cable Holder at the extension of the arrow [C]. Also, push-
on the Sheet onto [D] as shown in [8] to attach the Sheet. Be sure that the corner of the Sheet and the edge of the
Stapler Cable Holder are separated as shown in [9].

3) If the Stapler Assembly Cable is damaged, replace the new one (FM2-5734).
Due to the request from the field, Stapler Unit (FM2-6362-000) has been newly set up as the service parts.
