Betty 80 lessons

3A-Unit 1.1 to 3A-Unit 6.5

- weather and seasons: spring: It’s cool and windy; summer: It’s hot and sunny; autumn:
It’s cool and foggy; winter: It’s cold and dry. We talked about the activities people do in
each of the seasons and the clothes they wear. Which season do you like better/best?
Why? - I like spring best because... Pay attention to go swimming/go hiking, wear a scarf,
and the preposition ‘in’ in front of seasons. Key vocabulary: go hiking, fly a kite, eat
hotpot, eat ice cream, ride a bike, wear a scarf.
-          Rhyming words = words with the same ending sounds, snowboarding and skiing = winter
sports
-          festivals (Christmas, Easter, Mid-Autumn, Dragon Boat Festival) and the activities people
do at these festivals: play with lanterns, eat dumplings, eat chocolate eggs, send cards, decorate a
Christmas tree, watch dragon boat races, etc. Which festival do you like best? - I like ________
best. Why? Because I like + ing _____.

-          we talked about children from Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau and what they like
to do during Mid-Autumn festival. We learned about new types of mooncakes and about the
colorful lanterns. celebrate = enjoy, have fun during, perform.

- vocabulary = months, seasons, preposition ‘in’ before months. Writing the months, connecting
them with numbers and seasons. Sentences: In winter, there are December, January and
February. We always write the names of the months using capital letters (February, not february)
- dates: months and ordinal numbers 1st-31st: What date is it? It’s the first of July; It’s the
thirtieth of March, it’s the fifth of May/ It’s May 5 (May fifth)
- school events and festivals: Open Day, Sports Day, Speech Day, Parents Day, and the
school activities: have a picnic, have a school fair, the swimming gala, etc.
- riddles and some new vocabulary there: ticket, receipt, planner. New Vocabulary: tasty =
delicious, yummy, calendar = a chart or series of pages showing the days, weeks, and
months of a particular year
- school description (ordinal numbers, rooms, prepositions); on the left/right, next to;
first/second/third floor (6/F); library, art/music room, computer room, toilets, canteen,
teacher’s room/office, playground, gym. Where is the library? - It’s on the _____ floor,
on the left/right/ next to the _____.
- vocabulary: cozy = warm and comfortable, interesting = funny, nice, verse, line, title,
poem. Sound /u:/ in words such as room, boom, doom, goose, etc.
- places: shopping centre, restaurant, hotel, beach, country park. Activities we can do in
these places: surf, build sandcastles, eat dim sum, have a buffet meal, etc. What can you
do at a hotel? - You can sleep, have a meal, go swimming.

- topic: shopping. Vocabulary: purse, wallet, necklace, backpack, watch, clock, lunch box,
water bottle, photo frame, photo album, doorbell, classroom. Grammar: compound
nouns: noun + noun, adjective + noun. Sentences: How much is this purse? - It’s seventy-
five dollars.

- vocabulary: a play = a story acted out on stage, scene = a place where the story happens,
characters = people/animals in the play.

- vocabulary: American dollar (stars and stripes, flag), Hong Kong dollar, renminbi/yuan,
euro, Europe, France, Italy, Britain (French bread, Italian bread, British bread), Macau
pataca. How much is the bag? It’s 50 euros. Sound /f/ - ‘ph’ and ‘f’ (photo, frame).

3B – Unit 1.1 to 3B – Unit 6.5

- Topic: feelings and what we can do. Vocab: tired, thirsty, hungry, cold, hot, bored. How
do you feel? - I’m tired. I’m = I am. She’s = She is. What can we do? - We can take a
seat/read magazines/put on a coat/ take off our jackets/ take a nap.
- Topic: feelings, reading the story about an old man and two boys. New vocabulary: silly
= foolish, not important, offer = give, provide, neighbor = person living near your house,
suddenly = by surprise, out of nowhere. Grammar: Present Simple tense
- adjectives: scared, brave, scary, cheerful, patient, honest, gentle. What is he/she like? -
She is cheerful. She is always smiling. What is he like? - He is patient. He listens to his
friends when they are unhappy.
- animal expressions in detail: as proud as a peacock, as brave as a lion, as gentle as a
lamb. Sounds: short /u/ - good, foot and long /u:/ - boot, food.
- activities people do at the weekend: paint a picture, play computer games, watch
cartoons, play/practice the piano/guitar/violin, listen to music, chat with friends, study for
exams. Grammar: Present Simple - I study for exams. Past Simple regular verbs: I studied
for exams.
- hilarious = very funny, online = using the Internet and the computer, chat = send
messages online, all = everyone.
- rhyme = a poem with rhyming words, I bet = I am sure, I really think, I guess, giant =
huge, really big, enormous.
- topic: birthday party. Grammar: Past Simple regular and irregular verbs. Action words:
play, listen, sing, cut, do, have, say, blow, give, go, get. What did you do yesterday? - I
blew candles yesterday.
- Regular verbs = we add -ed to them. Irregular verbs = we change them (be-was/were, do-
did, sing-sang).
- Present Simple and Past Simple, describing people in the past and now. What were you
like in your childhood? - I was naughty. What are you now like? - I am good. What are
they like? - They are careless. Adjectives: lazy, hard-working, careless, careful, good,
naughty.
- A letter to Santa Claus by Jane. Vocabulary: Santa Claus = Santa, Father Christmas;
untidy = messy, dirty; energy = willingness, happiness; heavy = how much weight;
paragraph =part, section. Present Simple and Past Simple, describing people in the past
and now.
- Adjectives describing people, their synonyms and opposites. clever = smart, intelligent,
bright (foolish, stupid, silly); beautiful = good-looking, pretty, look nice (ugly,
unattractive, not pretty); mean = unkind, naughty, careless (kind, nice, helpful). The silent
letters /gh/ (naughty, night)

I/we could put on my shoes when I was/we were 3 years old. When I was 3 years old I
could/couldn’t change my clothes.
- Reading a magazine article about a girl. Vocab: excited = very happy. competition/kam
pe ti shns/, proudest /prau dist/, look after = take care, take the first steps = start to walk
first. Sentences: I was one year old when I took my first steps. I couldn’t comb my wet
hair when I was six.

1.  Speaking
Betty is always focused, very into learning and loves English. She can express herself in
English with ease and she can think in English. We need to work more on her intonation
and speaking pace.
2. Listening
Betty can easily understand and follor the teacher's instructions, modelling, she is good at
listening and always attentive. Her listening skills are well developed.
3. Usage of Sentences
Betty is able to use complete, compound sentences. Her sentences are comprehensive,
with great or sometimes good grammar. She can express herself clearly and easily
acquire corrections.
4. Adaptability
The student can easily adapt to an English class and she is always smiling and happy in
our lessons. It is noticable how much she is willing to learn and how big her love for
English is. She is perfectly capable of following the classroom rules.
5. Interaction with the teacher
Betty can respond to the reacher, both verbally and with body language. If she is trying to
explain something in detail, there will be some grammatical/pronunciaion lapses but we
tend to correct them on the spot.
6. Part 3: Teacher’s comments (at least 25 words)
Suggestions about English learning: Betty, listen to English language more because it is
necessary that you improve your pronunciaion and intonation, as well as enunciation.
Watch movies, listen to radio programs, anything in English.
Classroom behaviors: no suggestions here, Betty is an exemplary student.
7. Tutor’s feedback about student’s English level
The material we are using suits Betty, and we are always able to finish it in time and to
practice using the vocabulary/expressions/grammar from that or the previous lesson. We
