WHY EXPORT THROUGH INDIA POST?

The Department of Posts (DOP) is a government operated postal system widely known as India Post. This
service is dedicated service for corporate and retail customers to provide reliable, economical and fast postal
services. It was the only mailing partner for each and every Indian till recent times. Even now, although
numerous courier services have emerged, India Post being a member of UPU (Universal Postal Union), a
specialized agency of the United Nations with a membership of over 190 countries, has a global
network of reliable service providers which are authorized by the concerned country’s laws and provides an
unmatched network for export solutions.

In order to cater to the SMEs and what may come as a major boost to the Make in India programme,
Government of India recently introduced new and simplified procedures for commercial exports through
India Post. This is expected to not only boost Indian exports but also generate much needed employment
necessary to fully draw on India’s demographic dividend.

1. What are the new procedures introduced to facilitate exports through India Post?
Government of India has enabled postal channel for commercial exports w.e.f. 21st June 2018. All valid
IEC holders can use postal channel for sending their commercial exports by filing PBE-I (for eCommerce
exports) or PBE-II (for other than eCommerce exports). These are simple forms designed especially for
simplified clearance of export consignments by customs. Exporter (having valid IEC) will present duly
filled-in PBE-I/ PBE-II along with other necessary documents at the Noting Section of the Customs at
Postal Exports Facilitation Centre(Foreign post offices/ International business centres). Customs will allot
PBE number on the PBE so filed after carrying out necessary checks. PBEs will be given back to the
customers after allotment of PBE number thereon. After this, exporters are free to book their
consignment with India Post.

2. How are these new procedures to facilitate exports getting implemented in Mumbai?
In order to give fillip to commercial exports through the postal channel, an International business centre
at APSO complex, Ville Parle, Mumbai -99 is setup and made functional from 04.07.2018. International
business centre (IBC) is a single location, one point booking centre for all kinds of international mail and
is catering to both retail individuals and commercial players. The setting up of such a center will
drastically cut down on transmission time of international mail. IBC is fully functional facility dedicated
