Jim is a social businessman who addresses social and development issues through his leadership roles at
several social enterprises:
• Founder, Hybrid Social Solutions Inc., a pioneering social enterprise that is building a gridless
solar electricity network to transform rural communities across the Philippines. Over 325,000
people benefit from a range of HSSi solar products.
• Chairm an, Stiftung Solarenergie Philippines, the Asian arm of the Stiftung Solarenergie
International Network for Rural Development, a pioneer in sustainable rural electrification that
operates in Africa, Asia, and Europe.
• Network Partner, Hystra Inc., a global hybrid strategy consulting firm, of which Jim is Manila-
based Network Partner for Southeast Asia. Hystra helps companies scale up innovative business
models that provide widespread access to essential services such as: water, sanitation, electricity,
healthcare, and housing.

In recognition of his work in social enterprise, Jim was conferred the Schwab Foundation Social
Entrepreneur of the Year 2013 and Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and Social
Entrepreneur of the Year Philippines 2012 awards.

Throughout his career, Jim has played leadership roles in a number of corporate and civic organizations. He
is currently:
• Director, First Gen, the leading clean and renewable energy company in the Philippines with an
installed base of over 2,700MW, including the capacity of EDC, the 2nd largest geothermal company
in the world
• Chairm an, Healthway M edical, which operates close to 200 primary care and corporate clinics
in the Philippines.
• Treasurer and Trustee, Forest Foundation Philippines, which improves Philippine forests
by working with communities and catalyzing local and national actions for sustainable management.
• National Advisory Board M ember, W orld W ildlife Fund of the Philippines, the country’s
leader in marine conservation and environmental protection.
• Luzon Private Sector Representative, M icro, Sm all, and M edium Enterprise
Developm ent Council, which guides the Department of Trade and Industry on spurring the
growth of the development of MSMEs throughout the country, with a focus on inclusive value chains.

He is a former Trustee of Princeton University, Bonifacio Arts and Science Foundation, and
HERO Foundation.

Before entering the social enterprise sphere full-time, Jim worked with Ayala Corporation, where he was:
senior managing director and a member of the Executive Committee, President and CEO of Ayala Land, and
a Trustee of Ayala Foundation. Prior to joining Ayala, Jim was a Director of M cKinsey & Company, the
world’s leading top-management consulting firm, where he worked across 29 countries. At McKinsey, he
focused on development work in emerging markets.

Jim earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, graduating with honors in 1988. He completed
his undergraduate work in 1984 at Princeton University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in
Economics.

Jim is married and has three children that he and his wife hope to raise to be responsible and productive
citizens.
