DETAILED LESSON PLAN

SCIENCE Grade 3
School PANIPUAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Teaching (Week )
Dates/ Week
Teache GRACE S. PUNSALAN
r Quarter First

I. OBJECTIVES
A. CS :
The learners demonstrate understanding of ways of sorting materials and describing
them as solid, liquid or gas based on observable properties.

B. PS:
The learners should be able to group common objects found at home and in school
according to solids, liquids and gas.

C. LC:
The learners should be able to classify objects and materials as solid, liquid, and gas
based on some observable characteristics.

 Specific Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1. identify different solids around them;
2. name the solids having different colors;
3. group solids according to their color, and
4. describe solids according to their color.

II. CONTENT: LESSON 1: COLORS OF SOLIDS

III. LEARNING RESOURCES
A. References
1. Teacher’s Guide pages:
2. Learner’s Material pages:
B. Other Learning Resources

IV. PROCEDURE
(ENGAGE)
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
What do you see around you? List down five objects that you see inside or outside
of the classroom/home?

B. Establishing the purpose for the lesson

Look at your list. Which of these objects are solids? Tell something about the objects
you have listed.

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson

Any object that has mass or weight and occupies space is called matter. The three
states of matter are solid, liquid and gas. Solids have definite characteristics like size (big
or small), texture (rough or smooth), shape (round, square or triangle) and color (black or
white).

(EXPLORE)
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1
Solids have many characteristics. Do activity 1 to learn about the colors of solids.

Activity 1: What are the colors of solids?

Materials: pictures of ripe and unripe papaya, ripe and unripe mango, ripe
and unripe tomato, eggplant and charcoal

Procedure:
 Study the pictures of different solids
 Color each object then write their color in the box.

E. Developing mastery
After doing the activity, answer the guide questions below:

Guide Questions: Answer your answer on the blank provided.

1. What are the names of the solids and their color?

________________________________________________________

2. Which solids have the same color?

3. Which solids have different colors?

4. Do solids have a specific color? _______________________________

(ELABORATE)
F. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living
You have learned that solids have different characteristics. Look around you. Name
objects around you that has the following color:
1. Blue - ____________
2. Orange - ____________
3. Green - ____________
4. Red - ____________
5. Yellow - ____________

G. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson

Now that you have learned about the colors of solids, remember the following science
concepts.
 Matter is anything that occupies space that has mass and weight. There are three
states of matter: solid, liquid and gas.
 Solids have a definite shape, color, size and texture.

 There are solids that have the same color (example: ripe tomato and apple have red
color).
 There are solids that have different colors (ripe mango and unripe mango have
different colors).
 Solids may be grouped together according to their color.

(EVALUATE)
H. Evaluating learning
To assess your understanding of the lesson, bring out solid objects in your school
bag. Fill out the table below by naming the objects you have and give the color.

I. Additional activities for application or remediation

Enrichment Activity: Colors of Solids at Home

1. List and name five (5) solids you can find at home.
2. Draw the objects and use crayons to color them.
3. Use the table below for your answers.
