ROADWORK

Mwanza City Council projects package 3 consisted of 6 roads names, details of the road and my
responsibilities as site agentd will be explained:

1) BUTIMBA ROAD

Activities involved in Butimba road were:

• shoulder protection by grouting stone pitching.

• Construction of asphalt concrete for access roads.

• And constructions of open drains as well as 600mm culvert-2 line.

My major responsibilities were to supervise the quality of works, managi


ng personnel, equipment and project costs.
2) PEPSI ROAD.

Activities involved in Pepsi road were:

• Construction of open drainage and gabions and casting of concrete on gabions.

• Construction of skewed triple culvert for accommodation of railway.

• Construction of access road by concrete casting.

My major responsibilities were to supervise the quality, labours and cost.


As well as time management.

3) TILAPIA AND UZINZA ROAD

Major activities involved we construction of asphalt concrete road from roadbed


to asphalt concrete and involving reinforced concrete box drain as well as sub surface dr
ainage to reinforced concrete box drain, road signs and solar streetlight installations.
My major responsibilities were program planning, cost implications, material re
conciliations, quality control, labour allocation and supervisions, equipments all
ocations and time managements.

4) ISAMILO – MJIMWEMA ROAD-815m

Major activities were construction of asphalt concrete road of 600m, 900mm culv
erts,Rigid pavement of 6.5m width of 215m length, reinforced concrete box drain
s, spoon drains, retaining wall, stone masonry wall and stone pitching, edge/s
houlder protection. Construction of gabions, installation of railway to protect wa
lkway, installation of road signs, road marking and solar streetlights.
My major responsibilities were program planning, cost implications, material re
conciliations, quality control, labour allocation and supervisions, equipments all
ocations, time managements, preparation of monthly revised program of works,
preparation of measurement sheet and method of statement (certificates).

5) SANGA- KILOLELI ROAD

Major activities were; construction of box culvert (16m*8m*1.8m) to accommoda


te and better catchment of rain and river water, construction of 90m*6.5m*0.2m
rigid pavement and its belly mouth, road marking and installation of road signs as
well as open stone masonry drain wall.
My major activities were preparation of schedule of materials, quality con
trol including steel, concrete and formworks. Equipment managements, l
abors time control, Cost control and activities planning.

ojects includes kikagati power (KPCL) where it plans to generate 15MW.

• Construction of gate for spillway
• Construction of erection bay for maintenance

• Construction of road works, office buildings as well as accommodation buildings.

MY RESPONSIBILITIES AS QUALITY CONTROL/ASSURANCE ENGINEER ARE AS FOLLOWS:


1) Maintain the technical standard of the project according to the signed technical spe
cification, as well as UN standard. Such activities are:
• Conducting aggregate grading test once a week as described in the specific
ation.
• Conducting Methylene blue tests of aggregates
• Conducting classifications tests (sieve, dry density Atterberg tests)
• Conducting cement consistence tests as well as cement compressive tests f
or every cement delivery with comparisons to the certificate of manufactur
e
• Conducting tensile tests as well as bendability tests of high yield tensile
• Conducting plate bearing tests for compacted materials
• Conducting slump tests, flow tests for fresh concrete as well as cubes takin
g for 3, 5, 7,14 and 28 days for compressive strength tests
• Installation of temperature probes for concrete thickness more than 2m in
order to monitor curing for the minimum 7 days.
• Conducting compressive strength tests for 2.5 days for formwork removal f
or vertical structures
• Issuing nonconformity of works where there is mis alignment, cracks on ho
rizontal and vertical structures
• Preparation of weekly reports for all quality works conducted.
• Keeping records of all tests for future accessibilities.
