Learning Objective Living Systems

5.5 The student will investigate and understand that
organisms are made of one or more cells and have
distinguishing characteristics that play a vital role in
the organism’s ability to survive and thrive in its
environment. Key concepts include
a) basic cell structures and functions;
b) classification of organisms using physical
characteristics, body structures, and behavior of
the organism; and
c) traits of organisms that allow them to survive in
their environment.
Pedagogy

Online Activity 1. The teacher and student will meet on Google Meet to
go over the google slides about cells and their
characteristics.
2. The student will be required to watch a video on cell
structure on Brain Pop. Also available are games fun
activities for the students to complete to help with the
learning of the cell structures.
3. The student will then go to SePup Cell Simulation
where they will be required to create a plant and
animal cell by dragging and dropping the organelles
into the cell. After the cells are completed the student
will screenshot the work.
4. Once the correct organelles are complete the student
will be prompted to go to the next page then compare
and contrast the organelles of the plant and animal cell
in a Venn diagram. After completion the student will
screenshot that also.
5. The student will then email both screenshots to the
teacher for credit.

During the simulation, the student can click on each

organelle to see a description of what their function is.
