Specific Responsibilities
Plans, budgets, designs and oversees implementation of breeding and reproduction programs and
projects, Participates in the update and maintenance of the National Gene Bank/Depository,
Coordinates the development of guidelines and implementation of field oriented breeding
extension services for field workers, Breeder Societies/ Associations and indigenous farmers,
Evaluates all imported germplasm and live animals, Promotes Open Nucleus Breeding
programmes with the farmers in collaboration with breeding activities of Genetic Resources
Centre farms, Monitors and evaluates the performance of breeding activities, Develops research
proposals and takes part in characterization of breeds, production environments and other related
researchable areas, Oversees the production or procurement of semen, ova, embryo and
associated animal breeding technologies, Establishes a foundation stock of superior dams and
sires, Manages the rearing of Sire Studs for production of semen, Coordinates the promotion of
herd-recording programmes on Centre farms, Initiates and designs projects and programs for the
formulation of management and production information to be packaged and used in the training
programs of NAGRC & DB at different levels, Liaises with other genetic resource breeding and
research centres to benchmark and improve on breeding technologies and services of the Centre,
Supervises mentors and appraises staff in the Department and Any other activities as assigned by
the Executive Director
Basic Requirements
a) A Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences, Veterinary Medicine or their equivalent
from a recognised degree awarding institution.
b) A Masters degree in Animal Sciences, Veterinary Science or their equivalent from a
recognised degree awarding institution is a pre-requisite.
c) Specialised post-graduate training in animal breeding from a recognized institution is
desirable.
d) PhD Training is an added advantage
e) Should have extensive management and leadership skills.
f) Working experience of at least Seven (07) years in animal industry is a prerequisite with
at least three years’ experience at Senior level in Government or a recognized institution

Basic Requirements
a) An Honors Bachelors Degree Economics, Statistics , Quantitative Economics or any other
related degree from a recognized University/Institution, plus

Economics, Statistics or Quantitative Economics from a recognized University/Institution.
c) Expertise in data analysis using NVivo8, SPSS, Epi Data, Atlas, etc.
d) Should be team player capable of working with the senior management team and with the

Manages and accounts for the human, fiscal and physical assets of the Centre Farm, Supervises
monitors and evaluates the performance of the Centre Farm in respect to set targets including
production and breeding programs, Prepares and submits periodic reports on the performance of
the farm including Supervises, mentors and appraises technical staff and oversees the
administration of all other staff, Initiates innovations to enhance the productive capability of the
Centre Farm, Organises and coordinates outreach activities to the farmers to enhance their

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Undertakes diagnosis and treatment of animals; Refers animals for the conduct of tests including
x-rays, blood samples and ultrasound scans as may be found appropriate; Advises on animal
nutrition, breeding and health; Participates in the regulation of potential animal breeder prior to
licensing and quality assurance on production of semen or genetic breeds; Conducts vaccination
of animals against various types of diseases; Performs surgery on animals; Maintains proper and

and specimens in line with internationally accepted standards, Tests new and improved laboratory

Basic Requirements

b) A post graduate Diploma in Bio-technology or any field relevant to animal reproduction and

d) Should be of integrity with well-developed analytical, organizational and communication

fry/fingerlings and fisheries stocking materials and sustainable natural resources management;
conducts fisheries breeding and surveillance on aquaculture, in the centre farms and the

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
a) A Bachelor’s degree of Fisheries and Aquaculture is a must.
b) A Master’s degree in any of the above fields from a recognized government institution or

c) Should have adequate knowledge of regulatory, inspection and aquaculture research related
technology of the aquaculture industry.

Collects and tests semen and other samples to establish its genotype, quality and viability for
reproductive and breeding initiatives; Collects natural and exotic genetic animal resources for
storage or conservation as found appropriate; Implements AI measures and assists in the
execution of other animal natural or assisted breeding techniques or technologies; Records data
on animal management and associated reproductive and breeding activity; Observes animal
hygiene, health, diet (including special diets, pregnancy diagnosis as may be necessary) and
