Earth and Earth Systems
CONTENT STANDARD The learners demonstrate an understanding of the formation of the
universe and the solar system
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
LEARNING COMPETENCY: Recognize the uniqueness of Earth, being the only planet in the solar system
with properties necessary to support life. S11/12ES-Ia-e-3
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
 Recognize the difference in physical and chemical properties between the
Earth and its neighboring planets
 Identify the factors that allow a planet to support life.

LEARNING RESOURCES: Earth and Life Science (Teachers Guide)

(printed, nonprinted, and online sources and from the LRMDS portal)

LEARNING DELIVERY
MODE:
(4A’s of Learning)
A. ACTIVITY Activity: Teacher tip Teacher can create his or her own 4 Pictures 1
Word puzzle. Use images that the learners can easily relate to.

Teacher will present the pictures of Venus, Earth and Mars.

protecting the environment and the life here on Earth?”

B. ANALYSIS Learners will be watching a videoclip and will present their iea on the
board.
Key questions:

of a planet?”
“ Why do Venus and Mars has no Global Magnetic Field?”
C. ABSTRACTION  Habitable or not? Using the checklist provided learners

1. Ask the learners to watch two short video clips filmed inside a
car. Try to determine where the horn is coming from. Is it coming
from inside the car or outside the car? If outside the car, where?
• Video 1 - horn is coming from the inside of the car. There is
hardly any change in the volume and pitch of the horn.
• Video 2 - horn is coming from outside of the car. Specifically,
the horn is coming from another car travelling in an opposite
direction. Notice how the pitch and volume of the car varies with
distance from the other car. Pitch and volume increases as the
other car approaches
ASSESSMENT What is the fate of the universe? Will the universe continue to
(Format and Results) expand or will it eventually contract because of gravity?
