Learning Objective 3.2 The student will

1. a)  name and write fractions and mixed
numbers represented by a model;
2. b)  represent fractions and mixed numbers
with models and symbols; and
3. c)  compare fractions having like and unlike
denominators, using words and symbols (>, <,
=, or ≠), with models.

Online Activity This simulation is all about fractions and mixed numbers. As
the main core of this lesson, I would have prerecorded videos
of me explaining fractions, mixed numbers, and the
comparison of fractions posted on our class page. I would also
give several examples of fraction models because I know a lot
of students learn better visually. I will have comment sections
available on our class page and be available for specific video
chat office hours for any of my students that have questions or
are struggling with learning the material. I want to make sure
all of the students have a firm grasp on the material before
moving on to the review simulation. After viewing the video of
this chapter, my students will use this simulation tool to
practice what they have just learned. The simulation tool is
basically a matching game. There is practice with regular
fractions and with mixed numbers. Also, it includes multiple
levels, ranging in difficulty, so that the student can practice at
their own individualized difficulty level. Once on their selected
level, the student will drag either the fraction or the visual
model to one of the balance scales. Then, after defining that
fraction or model, they will look through the other given
choices and decide which one is the exact same as their chosen
fraction. The two fractions, or fraction and a model, would
have to equal each other. Once the student feels confident
with their choice, they will click “check”. If it is correct, they
can click “okay” and move onto the next one, but if it’s not,
they can try again until it’s correct. The goal is for the student

to get as much practice of the material as possible. Once they
have completed both the fraction challenges and the mixed
number challenges, on all levels, the student will have to take
a screenshot or picture of all of their completed levels and
send them to me via our class page chat area. Along with that,
I would need the students to send me what they found most
challenging, what was the easiest for them, and how confident
they feel with the lesson. This way, I can see how useful this
simulation was before we move on to the next chapter.
