They have to move away from the lands of their ancestors.

Often they move to poor areas.

Their languages are unique.

When a language disappears, the voice of a culture disappears.
In my opinion, these things basically benefit the industry sector. They help to produce
things that everybody needs. Therefore, these big companies gain a lot of money.

I don't think they should stop, because we need these modern practices to live as we are used to live.

Yes, indigenous people are as important as people who live in a modern way. The government must respect their way of
living, so they can't take them away from their land without talking to them first and finding a way to give indigenous
people a similar land in order not to affect them.

Settled, connected, protest, convinced, powerful.

They protest because the government wants to destroy the forests in order to construct factories.
Asik, the leader, welcomes us.
There are no more trees, and all the land is not good. The animals

are gone; the river is muddy. Here we sleep on hard logs, but we

have plenty to eat.

In the evening, children watch television, but they don't
understand the language.
Tu'o says he is sorry about the small amount of food at
dinner.

The Penan fought to keep their home in the forest, but

the logging companies were too powerful.
The big ships were waiting to get filled up with logs
from the forest where the Penan live.
The government said that it was better for the Penan
to live in villages and become part of modern
Malaysia.
Since that time, thousands more Penan have
moved to villages.
The Penan connection to their forest is still very true today.

It is known that recent changes in the world are too big

and are happening too fast. Most indigenous cultures can no longer adapt to them.
The Penan fought to keep their home in the forest, but the logging companies were

too powerful.

Some Penan children who now live in the village can not undersand anything they

watch on TV. Also, it is difficult for the Penan to have little to eat because they are

used to the forest where they can find many kinds of food.

Oiling and logging companies have become more powerful that they kept the Penan away

from the forest, so they had to move to villages. However, this is not the right way, Penan

people want the government to protect and preserve their culture. So, it would be appropiate to
talk to them in order to reach an agreement.
