Basa Pilipinas is USAID/Philippines’ flagship basic education activity in support of the Philippine

one million early grade students in Filipino, English and two mother tongue languages (Ilokano and
Sinugbuanong Binisaya). This will be achieved by improving reading instruction, reading delivery

One day, Lila’s father comes home from
work with a box for her. Curious with
what is in the box, Lila hurriedly opens
it and is surprised to find a puppy.
Together with her parents, Lila takes
care of the puppy and it becomes an
important part of their family.
