Team Project One: Video Conference

 This week, it was our oppurtunity as a group to come together and
brainstorm for our final project. It was time for us to have a sense of “the
big picture” for our final project. The reason for this team project is so us
as individuals can learn the important aspect of working together in
teams as a part of a larger organization. Working in a team environment is
critical nowadays. By doing this project it will help us develop our critical
thinking skills, negotiating skills, communication skills, interpersonal
skills, and many more. Right away, my team got off very well and we all
came up with great ideas. All of our ideas were also very different, but it
was interesting to hear other people’s perspectives on how they want the
project done.
For me, the topic I wanted to choose was Public Health. The reason I
wanted to choose Public Health is because Public Health is so important.
It’s important due to aiding and prolonging human lives. Public Health
helps find health issues as early as possible and helps take action so we as
individuals can spend many years in good health. Overall, Public health is
concerned with protecting the health of entire populations. This topic
really jumped out to me especially because of what is currently happening
in the world around us. With Covid affecting our lives, I thought it would
be interesting to do a piece on public health and to incorporate current
events that are going on as we speak. For my organization I wanted to
make it a non profit organization. The reason I wanted to do this is I don’t
want to profit from the money for myself, I want the money to go directly
back into its causes and missions. My mission is to work toward the public
good and that’s exactly why I would want to do a non profit organization. I
really want to focus and try and help people who are dealing with Covid.
My campaign I wanted to use was “We might be isolated, but were not
alone.” The purpose of my campaign is to really spread awareness and
reviving groups to look for information and services. The best way to
make sure word gets out is by social media. Mostly everyone uses social
media nowadays, so I would try and post awareness on as many websites
as I can. My target audience would be everybody. Anyone can be affected
by the disease so everyone needs to be aware of how to stay safe.
Together, my organization can help spread safety and hope that we will
get through this together.
Next we have my team members ideas! Both Micheal and Lazarus
wanted to do Social Justice. They both wanted to do Social Justice because
it’s such a hot topic right now. They both thought Social Justice is
important because society should celebrate diversity and equality. They
both agreed that social justice is very good for society because it helps
promote development, opportunity, and social well being. However, both
Micheal and Lazarus had different spins on how they wanted to do their
organization. Lazarus wanted to do a profit organization because he
believes there’s more wiggle room meaning the money is still getting
spent somewhere. He made a very good point by saying, even if we had for
profit instead of non profit, we as the owners decide where the money will
go. Lazarus however was only a little worried when choosing Social Justice
as a topic because how can we think of a specific cause that isn’t already
being done right now. Which I thought was a very good point brought up
by him. Micheal also wanted to choose social justice but he had a different
approach for what he wanted to do for his organization. Micheal believes
social justice is a common area happening right now. He also believes like
Lazarus that we should do a for profit organization because a for profit
tends to be more effective and proficient and a lot less wasteful. He also
thought we can use some of the extra money and make the organization
into a clothing brand. He wanted to focus the organization more on people
who have either mental health or disabilities of any kind. When Micheal
started this idea, Lazarus and I became very excited with the idea of doing
an organization that deals with people who have mental health or
disability. So, we took this idea and we rolled with it.
As a group, we all decided to do an organization that deals with
people who have mental health issues or disabilities. We all agreed that
mental health is so important because it affects how we think, feel, and
act. We wanted to create a program, to make it aware that police
sometimes don’t know how or treat people with disabilities correctly. Our
thought was we can create a program where social workers can come in,
and help those we are being affected with mental illness. We can
somehow create a government contact with the police to have police and
social workers create a partnership so when situations like this happen,
the trained social workers can help those who are affected by social
illness. Sometimes Police don’t realize that people who have a mental
illness can’t help themselves because of their illness so that’s why you
need someone to help educate and spread awareness to them. These
social workers are going to be trained and specialized when dealing with
people who have this problem. Our target audience is going to be people
in power in big cities however we do want it to be an overgeneralized
topic as well. We want everyone to be aware that this is happening. Our
slogan is going to say “Take the time, save a life.” We really want to grab
the attention of our audience because we want to help people who do
need the help who suffer from an illness they can’t control. It’s still in the
beginning stages for our group project, but I can tell our beginning ideas
are going to turn into an amazing final organization.
As a team, we really flowed ideas nicely together. At first we bump
heads on if we wanted our organization to be a for profit or non profit.
However after discussing and really hearing each other's ideas out we
decided as a group to go with for profit. The idea of mental illness really
popped out for us because we all as a group deal with mental illness. For
me, I have severe anxiety and it’s a very scary thing to have to deal with.
There’s a lot of people who don’t understand what I’m going through
because they’ve never experienced this before. All together as a group we
really bonded over the idea of this topic because we all have our own
mental enemy that we have to deal with. We really wanted to shine more
light on the idea of mental illness because a lot of people aren’t educated
enough on it. Mental illness affects nineteen percent of the human
population. People struggling with this can be in your family, live right
next door, work, or even your children. We as a group want to spread the
awareness of this illness and help more individuals show respect and
acceptance towards it.
