This document contains the technical specifications for the AGS-20 IDU PACKET equipment based on 6UGHz ASN and ASNK
ODUs.
The AGS-20 series is a split mount digital radio system for point-to-point applications implemented in 1+0, 1+1 and 2+0
configurations. It belongs to SIAE MICROELETTRONICA family named AGS Family and can be used in combination with ASN
and ASNK ODUs equipment, operating in frequency bands from 4GHz up to 42 GHz.
IDU provided in 19” mechanical arrangement (ETSI compatible). IDU Height: 1 standard Rack Unit.
ODU provided either with integrated or separated antenna. The same ODU can be used for all modulation schemes.
Core sub-unit
Fans sub-unit
IDU and ODU are connected via a single IF coaxial cable for 1+0 configuration, 2 IF coaxial cables for 1+1 Hot Stand-By
configuration or 2+0 configurations.
The ODU includes Cable Interface, IF conversion, Microwave transceiver and RF filter. In 1+1 Hot Stand-By or 2+0
configurations the outdoor part is made by 2 ODU. The mechanical composition of the system is reported in detail in Annex
5.
Nine different modulations are available, ranging from 4QAM up to 2048QAM. The 4QAM and the 16QAM modulations are
available with two different error correction codes, providing a total of eleven ACM profiles. The 2048QAM modulation is
avalable only with ASNK ODU. The 512QAM and 1024QAM modulations are also available with ASN ODU, but with a stronger
1
error correction code (i.e. with a lower net throughput) with respect to the ASNK profiles ( ).
When Adaptive modulation is enabled, Max Power Profile working mode is selected.
The equipment complies with the relevant international standards (ITU-T, ITU-R, ETSI, IEC, etc.).

1
( ) The profile available with ASN ODU is named High Gain profile, while the profile available with ASNK is named High Throughput profile.
2
( ) XPIC feature is not available with 7MHz channel bandwidth and with 2048QAM modulation scheme

The equipment can be managed using the SNMP v3 protocol, with a MIB (Management Information Base) available to customers on
request.
In order to exchange information with the NE, out-of-band management is available dedicating one Ethernet interface. In-
band management is also possible, allowing the equipment to be managed through the Ethernet data channel. In this case a
specific VLAN ID may be assigned to the management traffic.

Table 5 – Single Channel RF filter for ASNK6U
NOTE: The Single Channel RF filter can be used for the 1+1 FD/2+0 configurations, by coupling two frequency channels on the
same antenna by means of a RF circulator. This configuration can be used with the following limitation:
The two RF channels can be adjacent channels. For example, Channel “CH 1” can be used in conjunction with
Channel “CH 2” or a farthest Channel.
Channel “CH 1” cannot be used in conjunction with Channel “CH 8”.
The maximum modulation can be up to 2048QAM if XPIC is not used, up to 1024QAM otherwise.
ATPC must not be used.
NOTE2: The Single Channel RF filter can be used for the 2+0/4+0 configuration, by coupling frequency channels on the same
antenna by means of a RF multicirculator (18). The following figure shows the four possible ODU placements (slot#1, slot#2,
slot#3 and slot#4) on the multicirculator.
19
( ) Other arrangement options can be available (subject to preventive verification).

The equipment reference clock is transmitted on all the radio and Ethernet (electrical and optical) interfaces. The user can
optionally choose to transmit the reference clock also to the E1 and 2MHz interfaces.
For each one of these interfaces it is possible:
To assign a priority value from 1 (Max) to 9 (Min)
To force it as Max Priority Source (the selected source is assumed as reference
clock if there are no alarms on this interface)
To force it as primary reference clock (the selected source is assumed as
reference clock even if the clock precision is degraded or the interface does
not receive any signal).

a) Receiver Switching
The changeover is error free and the system has built in capabilities of minimizing the passed errors during the detection
time. The changeover is preferential on branch 1 and switches to branch 2 only when branch 1 is error affected. The hitless
switching facility provides automatic synchronization of the two incoming streams up; additionally, the switching unit is also
capable of compensating static delays between the two incoming streams.
The maximum automatic changeover time (including sensing time) for transmitter switching is 200 ms.
The maximum outage due to the TX switching (sum of the maximum automatic changeover plus RX IDU resynchronization
time), with ACM (Adaptive Code Modulation) activated, is 1400 ms for the TDM traffic and 450 ms ( ) for the Ethernet
63
traffic.
63
( ) This value refers to the outage that can affect the guaranteed traffic.
A) General Overview
Radio equipment, thanks to an embedded Web Server, can be locally controlled by an http browser running on PC: this
application is called WebLCT. Optionally, it is also available a software named SCT that can manage alarms from sub
networks of SIAE Network Elements.
The hardware platform used by SCT is based on Personal Computer with at least the following characteristics:
Windows XP/Windows 7
C) WebLCT features
Fault Management
The operator can, at any moment during the connection to the system, keep under control the status of all the equipment
belonging to the sub network through an “Alarm Display Panel” that is automatically updated by the system.
Alarm records are stored by the equipment in a history log together with all information which could be of interest for the
user, among which:
alarm description
The operator can access the history log using different filters
The main configuration parameters that the operator can update from the WebLCT are:
Equipment Maintenance
The main maintenance parameters that the operator can update from the WebLCT are:
Transmitter enable/disable
Carrier only

Loops( ) (see figure)
PRBS
64
( ) Line loops can be done for E1, STM-1 and Ethernet interfaces. Internal loops can be done for E1 and STM-1 interfaces.

Software management
A new software version can be downloaded from the WebLCT. The current software release is reported to the operator.
Performance management
G828, RX Power, TX Power and ACM counters are calculated both on radio side and line side
All counters are available on 15 minutes basis and daily, the WebLCT collects 16 blocks of 15 minutes counters showing in
this way the history of 4 hours.
The user can Start and Stop the Performance Monitoring function.
The user can define a threshold for each counter, when the threshold is crossed an alarm is set by the equipment.
65
( ) A feature equivalent to RF Loop is available on request.

In addition to what shown in the figure above, the following performance monitoring features are available:
- RMON for Ethernet port statistics, both on tributary and radio side
Security Management
The WebLCT Administrator creates and manages a set of user accounts; the security information (Password and User profile)
is used for identification, authentication purpose.
Four operator levels are enabled depending on the profile assigned to the operator:
Admin: the user with this profile can both verify the parameters and send commands or change the equipment
configuration with no exception.
Read/Write: the user with this profile can check the parameters, send commands or execute changes to the
equipment configuration except for the following operations: modifying the user list, aligning the date/time of the
equipment, force the logout of a user and all those operations available only to the Admin user.
Maintenance: the user with this profile can check the parameters and execute only maintenance operations (MAN.
OP) in the Manual Operation contextual area.
Read Only: the user with this profile can only check the parameters.
