Guidelines and Instructions for Preparation of the Architectural Thesis


Report for Academic Year: (2019-2020) Tenth Semester of Fifth Year 2015
The arrangement / order of the parts of the Architecture Thesis with relevant References:

Outside hard cover See Reference 1 for details of font size and layout.

1. Inside blank pages (Two, one thicker followed by one normal paper)
2. Inside Cover page 2 – Thesis title, student’s full name, and other details. As per Reference 1 and
followed by one normal blank page
3. Certificate - See Reference 2 for contents and details.
4. Abstract – On a separate page. It should not exceed two double spaced pages with not more than
400 words.
5. Dedication page - See Reference Item 3. This should not exceed one page.
6. Acknowledgements - Should not exceed two pages. Do write your own acknowledgements from
heart. Don’t copy paste from someone else and just change names. Expressing sincere gratitude is
a virtue.
7. Table of Contents - (In addition to the above listed items with respective page numbers, this Table
of Contents will also list numbered Chapters, List of Figures, List of Tables –if any, List of
Appendices –if any, Glossary –if any, and List of Appendices –if any). See Reference 4for details
on font and arrangement.

Style and Content Notes for Architecture Thesis Document


1. DO refer and use “APA Style” in preparing your Thesis document.
2. All the pages will be of A4 size. Quality of paper Executive Bond Paper. All major text in this
report shall be in Arial or Times New Roman font, size 12 in 1.5 spacing, justified left.
3. Figures, graphs, tables will be centered and placed with space above and below the item and the
text for easy readability. Each figure, table, graph etc. will be numbered chapter-wise, such as
Table or Figure / Illustration 1.1, 1.2 for Chapter 1 or 2.1, 2.2 for Chapter 2. Don’t forget to give
a caption / title with source / reference, as applicable.
4. The Title of each Chapter will be centered and in Font 16. See Reference 5.
5. A quote, few sentences, or a short paragraph of some original text can be in 1.0 spacing.
6. Margins-Each page shall have a margin of
Top-1.27 cm Bottom-1.27 cm
Left- 3.81cm Right-1.27 cm
Larger size pages can be used for illustrations. These should preferably be A3 size since it can be
folded easily, if needed. Such pages should be able to be folded neatly within the A4 size and
should be bound in such a way so that they can be easily unfolded (without tearing them apart).
7. Don’t forget to number each page of the report. However, remember
A. There won’t be any page numbers given till ―Abstract page,
B. Starting with the ―Abstract page, give number in lower numerical (like— i, ii, iii, iv, and so
on) including the pages of the ―Table of Contents and on until the ―List of Appendices, and
C. Then with the first chapter’s first page, begin the regular page numbers (1, 2, 3, and so on).
All page numbers will be placed at the bottom centre of the page just above the margin using
a normal print.
8. Within Chapters (1, 2, 3, etc.) use only Arabic numerals. Section numbering, if used by you, have
up to one decimal (such as, 1.1, 1.2, etc.) and should be left justified. For Sub-sections numbering
too, use only Arabic numerals with two decimals. Section numbering should be left justified.
Example: 1.1.1, 1.1.2, 1.2.1, etc. Sub-sections beyond the third level i.e., 1.1.1.2, 1.2.1.1 are not
recommended. Then you may use (A), (B), (C), etc. and further, (i), (ii), (iii), etc. if / as needed.

1. DO NOT plagiarize any work from anyone in any form.


2. DO NOT “copy paste” anyone’s work of any kind without citing full reference. DO
properly and fully acknowledge all the sources and references (any books, journal or
magazine articles, websites, personal communication, etc.) that you have used directly or
indirectly in any form in any part of your work / report. Learn to paraphrase ideas from
referenced material; that is, express the ideas / thoughts clearly in your own words.
3. DO refer and use "APA Style” in preparing your report, especially for reference citation
within the text and at the end. (Google can help here. For example:

4. DO NOT have the “Headers” and “Footers” texts on the pages in your Thesis document.
The footer will only have page numbers in the middle of the page.
5. DO check for spellings, punctuations, and grammar.
6. DO have good transition sentences at the end and beginning of each chapter.
7. DO make sure that what you write is relevant to your thesis and its goals and objectives.
Include graphical representations, tables, maps, drawings where required. Ensure they are
readable.
8. REMEMBER, each student who appears for the Thesis examination MUST also bring
ONE spiral-bound or clamped copy of her/his DRAFT THESIS REPORT, with signature
of the internal guide, on the days of final examination.
