SUBJECT MATTER: Minerals and Rocks

Topic / Lesson Name Minerals and Rocks

Content Standards The Learners demonstrated an understanding of:
1. the three main categories of rocks.
2. The origin and environment of formation of common
minerals and rocks
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS 1.Conduct a survey to assess the possible geologic hazards that your
community may experience. .
Learning Competencies The learners should be able to:
1.identify the common rock- forming minerals using their physical
and chemical properties
2. classify rocks into igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic
Specific learning Objectives The learners should be able to:
1. Differentiate the three main categories of rocks.
2. State the process on how the rocks are formed.
3. Cite the location of the different types of rocks using its
physical and chemical properties.
Time allotment
Introduction:

1. Greetings, Prayer and Checking of Attendance

2. The learners will play a cabbage relay that contains some questions about rocks.

Motivation

1. Present a video presentation about the volcanic eruption highlighting the rocks released.
2. The class will be divided into groups given the same series of pictures. These pictures will then be classified and explained either igneous,
sedimentary or metamorphic rocks.

Instruction / Delivery:

1. Using a Power point presentations, the characteristics of each category of rocks will be discussed.
2. From the motivation, check whether the rocks are categorized correctly.
3. An illustration of a rock cycle will be presented and the students will be asked to interpret it.

Practice

1. The students will collect different kinds of rocks and classify the rocks in terms of its colors, texture and shapes.

Enrichment

1. Field study to observe the different types of rocks found in a certain place.
2. Think- pair and share . Partners will share their ideas regarding how rocks are formed and the possible location of the categories of
rocks.

EVALUATION

Modified true or False with the questions involving the properties of rocks and the places where the types of rocks will be found.
