PUMP….!!
A Pump is a device that moves fluids (liquids
or gases) from one place to another, or sometimes
slurries, by mechanical action.

-Wikipedia

3
“ Types of Prumps

There are two main types of Pumps

1.Centrifugal Pumps
2.Positive Displacement Pumps

4
1.Centrifugal Pumps

5
● Commonly used pumps.
● Adds energy directly through a
rotating part(Impeller) in the form
of velocity, and converts the
velocity to pressure.
● In these pumps Impeller is only
moving part.

6
Characteristics
What is Head?

● They are used where High

Head and Low
Flows are Required.
Why Head is Taken
in Pumps Instead of
Pressure?

Pump Works?

Positive
Displacement Pump

10
A positive displacement pump makes a fluid move by trapping a
fixed amount and forcing (displacing) that trapped volume into
the discharge pipe.
