HOMEWORK EXERCISE - V

Calculate the Hydrostatic Pressure for the below wells. Also calculate the ECD.

Case 1:

TVD = 8000 ft
MD = 8000 ft

Density of fluid = 9.8ppg

Annular Pressure loss = 0.23 psi/ft

Thus, Hydrostatic pressure (H.P.) = 0.052 × TVD × Density of fluid = 0.052 × 8000 × 9.8 = 4076.8 psi
Annular pressure loss (APL) = Friction pressure per foot × Flow length = 0.23 × 8000 = 1840 psi
Equivalent Circulating Pressure (ECP) = H.P. + APL = 4076.8 + 1840 = 5916.8 psi
𝐸𝐶𝑃 5916.8
Thus, Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) = = = 14.22 ppg
0.052 ×TVD 0.052 ×8000

Case 2:

TVD = 5500 ft

MD = 8000 ft
Density of fluid = 9.8ppg

Annular Pressure loss = 0.23 psi/ft

Thus, Hydrostatic pressure (H.P.) = 0.052 × TVD × Density of fluid = 0.052 × 5500 × 9.8 = 2802.8 psi

Annular pressure loss (APL) = Friction pressure per foot × Flow length = 0.23 × 8000 = 1840 psi

Equivalent Circulating Pressure (ECP) = H.P. + APL = 2802.8 + 1840 = 4642.8 psi
𝐸𝐶𝑃 4642.8
Thus, Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) = = = 16.23 ppg
0.052 ×TVD 0.052 ×5500
Case 3:

TVD = 2500 ft

MD = 8000 ft

Density of fluid = 9.8ppg

Annular Pressure loss = 0.23 psi/ft

Thus, Hydrostatic pressure (H.P.) = 0.052 × TVD × Density of fluid = 0.052 × 2500 × 9.8 = 1274 psi

Annular pressure loss (APL) = Friction pressure per foot × Flow length = 0.23 × 8000 = 1840 psi

Equivalent Circulating Pressure (ECP) = H.P. + APL = 1274 + 1840 = 3114 psi
𝐸𝐶𝑃 3114
Thus, Equivalent Circulating Density (ECD) = = = 23.95 ppg
0.052 ×TVD 0.052 ×2500
