The above-mentioned skills are indispensable characteristics for a successful social media
manager. I have always been a person with a good social presence who likes to express his
thoughts. Therefore, I want to further improve my skill set in all of them.

Listening and engaging form an integral part of community management. Being a good
listener, I am always open to feedback. Also, being an extrovert, I am good at sparking and
engaging conversations. However, from the perspective of social media marketing, I think I
have a lot to improve in terms of learning more efficient ways of community management
which would make me even more visible on social platforms.

Creativity and writing skills are something I am not very good at. As a result, there is a lot of
scope of improvement. I would be looking forward to improve in this area by working in our
APO group project with my peers and learning from them, understanding and imbibing new
ideas which would be discussed in the course, opening up my horizons in terms of thinking
from different perspectives. I would also try to write more in the form of articles and blogs.

I am good at being adaptive, organized and effective. I am an open minded and punctual
guy, who loves to streamline his schedules, and complete my work before time. This also
helps me to incorporate other’s viewpoints by being in his/her shoes. However, looking
from the social media marketing point of view, which is so volatile, adapting to the same
would be challenging. As a result, gaining more knowledge from the course curriculum
would make me more capable to adapt to the dynamic environment.

Having done an internship in sales, I have seen the importance of customer focus and
strategic focus. In a world where customers are becoming more and more aware, it is very
important to understand the need of the customer, what he wants as an offering and create
a value proposition that meets those needs. This would require a strong strategic focus,
which I would be learning through the case readings and analysis, where I would understand
the pain points of customers in particular situations, and therefore help me develop an
acumen for dealing with similar situations.

Being analytical and decisive are one of the most important skills that any manager should
have. I have an analytical mind which focusses on details, and try to interpret the important
points from the same. I am good at decision making after reviewing the facts. However,
when it comes to the social media front, the data is immense. Getting insights from such a
huge raw data and converting that data into information will be a difficult task. To improve
my social media analytical skills, I will try to understand the various social media metrics
that would be taught in the course, use them to understand how they are related to
consumer behaviour and insights, and in turn take informed decisions, making me better at
both analytics and decision making.
